I'm was on "Inbox: 2" until earlier today with no new mail.
Then it just said "Inbox," but when I clicked on it and I had two new messages.

It's not just mobile that does it. I just got Inbox: 1 from the website.
It does however seem to eventually clear itself up as you receive more PMs. Every week with Sheep I get the Inbox error and throughout the few days it comes and goes.

Clearing your cookies might fix this. I was stuck on the maintenance page from last night, cleared my cookies and my Inbox:1 bug was fixed. This being a cookies issue is a strong possibility.
