I don't think you can take some total lack of understanding from a quote like that. He's just talking off the cuff to a group of reporters about missing the tournament in general, it's not like he called everyone up there to give them a detailed explanation of why we missed the tournament and cited a MWC team going 9-7 as a principle cause for concern.

Presumably, they'd leave the room as committee members do now when their team is discussed.
