This may be the only instance, but I actually think for the long-term benefits of this team going to the NIT is a better outcome.
It's embarassing for this program to miss the NCAA Tournament, so we can get that out of the way. However had we gotten in this year with our resume as of today, we'd be in the play-in game on Tuesday/Wed night. This team is exhausted and having to play on Tues night in a play in game would be really tough (litte easier Wed). I don't think we go very far due to tired legs even if we won.
I think we can go far in the NIT (even win the thing). Let's get 2.5 weeks of practice and 5 games in a tournament situation for our kids to mature. I want to see Shaq and Truck on the floor a lot. Win the NIT and we have a ton of momentum heading into next year.
Now go call me crazy

Maryland/Kentucky championship. That was my guess after we lost to UVA. Are we a 1 or 2 seed?

Could be fun...we could play UVA or Kentucky..I'm in for that. If were gonna miss the tournament I'm at least glad we're in the NIT. Future is bright regardless if we were a 12 seed today or in the NIT.

There are only so many NITs I can take in my lifetime. While good learning experiences they are humiliating for a program like this.

eh, NCAA tournament experience is always better but I'm just glad to have a postseason this year. This team needs the extra practice/confidence, hopefully they take it seriously and use this as a stepping stone into a strong season next year.

We haven't had an NIT like this -- on an ascending path -- in the entire time I've followed Maryland basketball. So, I don't view it in the same way as 2005 or 2006.

I don't like being in the NIT, but since we are, we might as well make the best of it. The team can use the work. But if we are in it, we should be in it to win it.
