only thing worse than Matty Roe is people saying he's not ready based on two ACC games.

Hes not ready based on five games or however many he has played. In my earlier post, I said a NBA may draft him based on potential, but in NBA terms that is all he is. His good play against weaker team in college doesn't strike me as sustainable. It seemed like he got 15 points the first couple games, but 10 of those points in each games was dunks. That is good for us, but not sustainable in the NBA where almost all the centers are 6'10 plus and fairly strong and athletic. When he gets points off good post moves and what not it would look more sustainable at the next level.

Nobody is ready for the workforce until they get in the workforce. The guy can turn over either shoulder, and has several post moves. He runs like a deer and we don't get him the ball in areas he can work. We've yet to even see him truly face. What he scores in a college game is irrelevant. IF anything, he's been far better statistically than I'd have imagined w/this late start. He's ready to earn the day he wants to earn

There may be some truth to that, but I think you are exaggerating the case. For example, "he runs like a deer". The commentators of the NC State game noted how NC State got back to back easy buckets cause he was not getting back on defense. You can lay the blame on Turgeon for not subbing for Len when he got tired and probably some blame should go there, but I think its an exaggeration to say he runs like a deer.

Jordan Williams got the ball in scoring position. He worked with Stogs and Pe'Shon and some of the same guys. He was adept at positing up and he had post moves. Its true Len hasn't got the ball in scoring position a lot and some of that may have to do with his teammates, but just like Len deserves part of the blame for not getting back on D against NC State, he probably deserves part of the blame for not getting the ball in scoring position. Look at Jordan Williams, he knew how to do it. If Jordan Williams had Len's height (5 more inches), I have no doubt that Williams would have been ready for the NBA.

Ultimately you have a higher opinion of Len. I see a seven footer with good potential, but I am not expecting him to be a dominant force. Maybe a a couple flashes this season. Years 2 and possible Year 3 are when I see him becoming a great college player.

As to your last statement"Hes ready to earn the day he wants to earn", I have never disagreed with that. I keep saying some NBA team may take him based on potential. But if he left for the NBA after this season, hes going to most likely be a end of the bench player in the NBA for at least his first season. I just cannot imagine him contributing at the NBA level at his current level of play. One day, sure, but I don't see it now.

I agree with all of this. Kid is just scratching the surface of his potential. We all know athletic guys over 7 feet don't exactly grow on trees and the NBA will always have interest in such players. I think we're going to see some pretty good improvement from Len over the rest of the season. I think he'll stay two years and is actually more likely to stay 3 than 1 (though I believe both of those chances are low). His passing ability is already very advanced for a big guy his age. With Stoglin and Len next year, we have a shot of being a pretty damn good team.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

  • The getting beat down the floor thing @ NC State had more to do with fatigue and sudden change from poor decision making than it did his physical makeup.

Also it's not just that he runs like a deer. His lateral fluidity is scarcely found at his age/size. It's an outright luxury that he can ball screen n slip so seemlessly in our offense. And he's pretty mobile on hedges n rim runs for misses.

I still wanna see him n us make a concerted effort to run offense through him, in places whhere he can be effective. But that doesn't mean GMs need to.

I do think he stays 2 years though.

  • Yea I don't think there are many 7 footers on the planet that move like him. I think he probably stays but because it's his choice, not because he wouldn't get drafted high.
