I Heart Turge!

  • “He (Turge) feels at all times, I should be ready, I should have a great attitude,” Stoglin said. “I need to be more vocal, he says. Everything he tells me, I’m just going to try to do and just become a better basketball player. What he has to say is to help me, not hurt me.”

Our coach is awesome. He's getting players to buy in with patience and tenacity. Whoever made this hire deserves huge props. We are in good hands.

  • My only problem with Turge right now is that he doesn't seem infatuated with Maryland yet. When asked in the press conference how it felt coming out of the tunnel for the first time he said it felt just like every other time he has coached. I know he is focused on the daunting task at hand but I want him to be gushing about our school at the same time.

  • not looking forward to the shitstorm here when we drop 3 games in puerto rico.

Yeah, I heard that too. He was like "yeah, I've been doing this for a long time. It was just another game for me." Really? That's either laser focus or missing the forest for the trees depending on you interpret it. Regardless, he's got a very tough job this season so he probably needs to be pretty focused on achievable goals. Everyone who says they have no expectations for this season needs to avoid the temptation adopt them. It's going to be a difficult year.

I was actually just thinking about this a little while ago. I think the one thing we have to understand is that unlike us and our former coach, he is not an alumnus. He doesn't have ANY connections to the school or area, so right now he's just trying to concentrate on coaching and doing his job, which is trying to win games. Over the next few years, if he hasn't made any connections to the school or area, THEN we should be concerned. If anything, we should appreciate the honesty that he has and the fact that he's not faking (or seemingly faking) like our current football coach. We just went from having our two biggest programs coached by alumni to now being coached by outsiders. There isn't the same passion towards the school in either case (no matter what they say).

"The drummer for Maryland's pep band just freaked out: 'They're trying to slow the game down,' he screamed. 'Get up on them, get up on them.

yeah well when you find that dreamworld give me directions to it. i think you are readying wayyyy too much into things.

would you rather have a coach who lies and says MD is his "dream job"?

    Seriously?

He came out of the tunnel to a half empty arena on a Sunday night to play UNCW.

I'm sure when he comes out of the tunnel for Duke or UNC he'll appreciate where he is.

  • He's an honest guy. I'm guessing that's what most coaches who aren't alums and are coming from other major schools would say if they were being entirely honest.

  • There were like 2k fans when he came through the tunnel. He isn't returning to the floor after some great career here. Wait until someone asks him how he feels coming out on the court once we start filling the place and I bet the answer will be different.

Although he is brutally honest, he came here to coach basketball. That stays constant wherever you go, I wouldn't expect a ton more from him when asked a question like that.

Your comparing him to his predecessor who was a Maryland alum. I could care less about his enthusiasm about the school as long as he has enthusiasm about our basketball program and he takes us back to the top of the ACC everything else will take care of itself.

Why do some people need to look for "problems" where there are none? Anyhow, as noted he has spoken extremely highly about the Maryland program and the prestige associated with it being the main reason he came here.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

  • I heard what Turge said, but I've also heard him repeatedly talk about how special Maryland basketball is, so I just think he didn't have time to really reflect on that question during the press conference the other night. I think he also tries to avoid putting too much pressure on himself and tries to maintain a certain confidence in his own abilities as a coach. So, the answer to that question had nothing to do with his feelings for Maryland, but rather was a reiteration that he has been a successful head coach before, and that he can do that here. He's been very respectful to Maryland and to Gary and Lefty since his arrival, and he wants to be part of Maryland history in the long run. He is just ultra focused on coaching this team right now. He'll reflect later as conference media asks him that question over and over.

  • November 29th vs Illinois will be the largest, most passionate crowd he's ever experienced rooting for his team while coaching. If he can take 2 in Puerto Rico, Comcast should be rocking especially hard too.

Alabama is going to kill us on the court with points and on this board with the lack of downvotes.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.

  • We don't need a repeat of Byrd in Comcast. But if he drops a couple in a row there's no question attendance will be down.

Keep telling yourself that. The measure of a fanbase is who shows for the early OOC slate, not nationally televised games. Wichita is rabid, as is Maryland, and even A&M showed for the big ones
