Isn't the real hypocritical part about all this the fact that Maryland has been taking transfers from New Mexico

    Joesmith32 said...

Great point. There's no outcry there about us "meddling with their program?"

Keep the kids that want to be here. Let the kids go to Franklin that want to go play for him. If he's really concerned that allowing Danny to go there will result in even more transfers, we have issues beyond what is out in the public.

Different situation as New Mexico fired Locksley and some of his recruits wanted to follow him. Situations are not comparable, imo!

Completely forgot about this. Of course, this was before the debacle of last season, correct?

yes, but it shows edsall isn't as vindictive as some here would like to believe. He is doing this because of James Franklin. If James Franklin keeps his nose out of UMD business while he is at Vandy, this would never be an issue. However, James likes to "keep Contact" with his former players. This undermines the authority of the current staff and when the player goes to transfer how can you not expect there to be ill will toward that coach?

I guess we should let our players seek advice from any coach on any staff and then Hold hands sing Kumbaya when they transfer to that school down the line.

    Pic Sigs are for losers.

Franklin was essentially fired when it was made clear that the Buffoon had no intention of hiring him despite his HCIW contract.

What planet are you from? Franklin was told that he'd have to interview for the MD job, just like everyone else. For some of the fools out there that don't understand the HCIW contract (or much else), that contract allowed the school to hire anyone as its next HC. The contract just guaranteed James $$ if he wasn't the next HC. He left on his own (because it made great financial sense to do so). Don't make it sound like James was chased out the door - he did what was best for James and nothing more. Should we all start whining that James didn't honor his HCIW contract because he was being paid to be the OC and he bailed on the school? Of course not, it's as foolish as your argument. Each day I'm amazed by some of the foolish posts on here. I might have to go back to bashing NdC in every post, it's less inane!

Also, Fridge wanted a contract extension. It was awkward for Franklin since he gave him his break.

  • Maybe someone can refresh my memory....?

If Franklin had been given the job weren't we on the hook to pay him a hefty salary? (by comparison to others with no HC experience). Wasn't there a some detail about being competive with others in the conference and Dabo's deal was going to make Franklin expensive. Something like that?

  • Franklin's contract guaranteed him the average of the top 5 head coaches in the ACC or something silly like that (especially for a first time HC!) if he was made head coach, and $1 million if he wasn't.

Frank's HCIW contract was not only for the 2012 season, not the 2011 season, it was signed by a different AD. He took that contract as well as an offer from Vanderbilt to the current AD in an attempt to become our head coach. Not sure how you could misconstrue that as us firing him at all.

Yes. I don't remember the exact number but it had a set salary for James (based upon the salaries of other ACC coaches at the time). I hated the RE hiring as much as anyone, but the revisionist history put forward by some of the posters on here is NdC-like.

  • One more little piece of information -- Fanklin is not particularly well liked by the local high school staffs in this area. With Locks here for the most part Franklin's appeal will be to players we don't want (at least in this area)

Franklin's HCIW contract was that they pay him a million dollars if he was not the HC by the 2012 season. I am not really sure if we are agreeing or disagreeing, but it was apparent that the Buffoon was going to bring in his own man to be the coach and that Franklin was going to be out of a job. He was not fired but he the result would have been the same. I don't see any difference between Locksley bringing NM players to Maryland or Franklin bring Maryland players to Vandy.
