Just wanted to start a thread in support of hiring him to be our scheduling guru. He has always been a numbers guy and has been one of the most accurate bracket projectors in the country for quite some time. He understands this stuff like the back of his hand. Our staff clearly doesn't, or at least they didn't at this time last year.
I find it impossible to believe that we can't find some money for a scheduling expert. It's clear that the schools that are playing the RPI game well have an enormous advantage when it comes to getting into the tournament on Selection Sunday. We should be right there with them!! There's no excuse why this program shouldn't do every single thing in it's control to get to the tournament every single year, and scheduling has an enormous impact. What's the point of the team / staff working so hard in the offseason, all of us paying for season tickets, cheering our asses off at Comcast, and everything else that goes into this program if we aren't gaining every possible advantage we can.
We can start by firing the guy in the Terrapin Club who met me for lunch and told me (I'm 27) that I needed to donate $20K for a pair of seats in the lower bowl. Uhh, thanks but no thanks. I'll just stick with my gold TC membership and take 4 seats 20 rows up in 118.
Others have talked about it at length but its amazing to me that some of our WINS this year actually HURT our RPI. We would have been better off NOT PLAYING games that we actually WON in the eyes of the committee. That means we have a problem. It's time we get up to speed with the rest of college basketball and started doing this right.
HIRE PATRICK STEVENS FOR SCHEDULING NERD
(I mean nerd as a term of endearment, as the work I do is very quantitative and nerdy as well)
