Apologizes if someone has posted this, but Scott Van Pelt with attendance...
Embarrassing that it has come to this...
hopefully this was emailed to every student
"I like fixing broken things" - Kevin Plank
Its sad. To be fair, however, the student section was 80-90% full last game. Non-student attendance, on the other hand...
Wow. This is NOT roomy!
The students are not inculcated into the sports venues from application. There is NO effective effort to plant the enthusiasm seed for this important aspect of college life.
Just more bungling on the part of the Administration and the AD, who imo, will lead from behind more so from now on!
i really thought the students did a great job last friday.
I forgot to check last game, what was the announced attendance for LIU?
It's embarrassing. Stated this a number of times as well, Its really really embarrassing that we literally trample over each other to get to Duke and UNC games.
I believe just right above 12,000
Not for long...
This is a problem with corporate purchasers of prime seat locations. It is easy to find vocal fans to fill empty seats by giving them away. I do, and it takes so little time and it is well appreciated each year. This is yet another area not aggressively pursued by the TC or the AD! If one turns in tickets to the TC, you get credit for a donation. That might the small push needed to run an annual plan. Now it is an ad hoc job handed over to sopmebody who didn't want the task!
I used to do that, but then found a vagueness about who got the tickets, and then had to chase after the donation amounts. I just post availability here, and they are scooped up! Thee will be a screaming fan in my seats for every game (yes this old man screams).

The reason it probably looks full is half of the student section is probably recent alumni not sitting in their actual seats
The student attendance hasn't been the problem this year.
No. I'm usually one of the first to trash the students and I think this e-mail is a good thing. I've been beating the "the TC needs to market to current students NOW to build that relationship" drum forever. But the students were out in full force Friday night against LIU. I was out of town for the Morehead State game so I can't speak to that, I heard it was pathetic. But Friday they were there.
Anyone want to give me a free ticket for the Ga. Southern game? I'll help with the attendance problem.
And that's a very good thing. I hope they keep it up.
Get the actual stats and then tell me im wrong. Student entrance (scanned tickets) vs General admission (scanned tickets) compare per game and what the stands looked like. I graduated several years ago and saw over a dozen classmates sitting in the student section.
Next two games will be light with a lot of students heading home for Thanksgiving
That does not remotely account for the fact that the lower bowl was full and the wall 90% full. I promise you.
Sad, but give it time. When we get back to being a top 20 team year in and year out and it becomes a hot ticket again, plus Turge ramps up the out of conference schedule a bit, I think we will see significant improvement in attendance. I also think we would greatly benefit if traffic wasn't so awful and we could somehow get cars off the campus quicker after games. I do think having more 7 pm weekday games as Turge has suggested will help as well.
I don't even view this as pathetic. I view it as long overdue. The Unviersity NEEDS to be doing shit like this to actively market to current students.
Agreed. I am semi-OWG and I am embarrassed at the number of OWG ticket holders that don't show up.
But I will say, SVP did a great job. Loved the line "look at me, I'm a mess." HOF SVP.
I have absolutely no problem with this. It's no secret that student attendance has not been great since GV & Co. have been gone. SVP is the perfect guy to do a video like this and I think it will work to some extent. With that said, the students showed up really well at the last game and hopefully they will for the remainder of the OOC schedule. Tomorrow will probably be light, however, with Thanksgiving this week...but that is to be expected
