"The drummer for Maryland's pep band just freaked out: 'They're trying to slow the game down,' he screamed. 'Get up on them, get up on them.
"When you have good kids, it's easier to recruit good kids. When you have a bunch of turds, it's easier to recruit turds."
Isn't this the kind of dumb shit that should be on the free board?

Prior to the 2001 tourney, we used to complain that we never made it past the sweet 16! We have fallen so low that now we complain that we can't even make it to the sweet 16. What a turnaround. Over the past 10 years, Gary had problems getting the top players to even consider coming to Maryland, so he ginned up the excuse that he didn't want to play the AAU recruiting game and could make it with second teer players. Well, that doesn't work anymore, as the last ten years have shown. Loved Gary for what he has done for Maryland, but could never understand his disdain for recruiting. Of course he was handicapped when his assistant coaches would leave every year, mainly because he relied on them for doing the recruiting job that was his responsibility.
Hopefully, Turge will turn this around in the next three years or so.
Please, everyone, I implore you to please stop bashing Gary's recruiting. It's over. He's gone. Move on. There's nothing new that can be written on this subject. Every other thread has to mention Gary's lack of recruiting since around 2003. We all know, Garyannas (like me) and others alike, and there's nothing you can do to change the past. Start looking toward the future, which, at this time, is looking pretty good. End rant.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
