  • The "dot connecting" are probably the right conclusions, but I don't blame them for poking holes in the report. I hate them for everything else they've done in his defense.

Dot connecting was the only thing they could do considering most of the primary players were either in jail, facing trial, or refused to talk to them.

And also considering that Freeh didn't have subpoena power.

I'm not convinced that they actually poked any holes in it, the only evidence of that is that Curley and Spanier were never interviewed (leaving out the convenient fact that they weren't allowed to talk) and that the computer system was overhauled in 2004, and a lot of pre-2004 data was lost.

Its so sad/funny to me that the PSU fans were so quick to dismiss the Freeh report because it was paid for by the BOT and painted Joe in a bad light, but the Paterno report was paid for by the family and casts Joe in a good light so its gospel.

    Excellent point...

BTW, is there any legal estate liability reason the Paterno family, ie the JoePa heirs, are fighting the Freeh report, or is this just an effort to salvage a reputation for their patriarch? Or both...?

  • Is there a bigger flip flopper than Phil Knight? First he strongly defends Paterno, then he takes Paterno's name off of some Nike crap after the Freeh report and now he's back to defending Paterno.

Knight is pathetic. This to me sounds like a business move. I hope that when he dies, he, Paterno, and Sandusky all screw each other.

What is madenning about this is that it seems like the actual victims don't mean shit to Penn Staters and the disgusting Paterno family. I hope they all burn in hell.

    Go Nats!

  • Have Penn State merchandise sales suffered since this whole mess started? If that's the case, that's why Knight is flip-flopping.

  • Any truth to the story that the pro-Paterno report was originally called "Bad Things about the Freeh Report"?

Seriously, the Paternos, Penn State and anyone with a PSU car magnet really need to just quit while they are behind and stop this ridiculousness that only makes their guys look worse. What is possibly being served by bringing this stuff up again? All it does for me is remind me how Joe Paterno was running a program that looked ther other way when a known serial pedophile was on the payroll. Wow, great job.

Agreed, with one caveat that makes it worse - it wasn't a footbal program that looked the other way - it was THE ENTIRE UNIVERSITY!!! That's what makes this so much worse in my opinion. One would expect that the University President would have enough power and decency to have done the right thing, but he didn't, because he wasn't the most powerful person on that campus (nor did he have any balls apparently) - the most powerful person at that University oversaw kids playing a game, and that's when the priorities got completely confused. And, the next PSU alum or fan who points to a graduation rate might get punched in the neck - how can anyone seriously believe that ANYTHING was done properly? Once serial child rape is allowed to occur, are we supposed to believe that the star cornerback really passed organic chem?

Which is why we will have Pedophile Sanctuary University signs every time we play them forever

a lot of conjecture in that post, Counselor.

Why wouldn't a CEO of an international juggernaut be concerned about lost revenue? Looking out for the bottom line is how these guys make their cheese.

I would also imagine that they make a lot more then one or two million from sales of PSU gear. There are probably 50,000 goobers in Pa whose wardrobe consists solely of Nike Penn State gear. They were still 12th nationally in gear sales for the quarter directly after the Sandusky verdict. I would imagine that's a fair amount of cash. Plus, Nike is also concerned about image, evidenced by Knight's flip flopping of support for JoePa.

  • Outside of protecting his business interests, I can't think of any reason why Knight would be chiming in at this point.

  • if his previous stance could affect PSU/nike sales, couldn't his new stance affect anti-PSU/nike sales just as well? seems to me if there are passionate people willing to forego a brand based on this matter, they would be on both sides of the fence.

  • Thanks for the link, i'll never understand the mentality of these people; they have a mindset that is very similar to those who believe that Newtown never happened. Just incredibly sick, demented humans. I can't wait until we play Penn State - i really can't believe that the B1G opposing fans didn't destroy those fans at every spot this past year. I think it's going to be quite a bit different upon arriving in College Park.

I was a little surprised by that too, but I imagine the Big 10 put out an edict to each school that they were to immediately confiscate any sign alluding to the Sandusky scandal. As for chants, it's just to uncomfortable for thousands of people to chant something about child rape, pedophelia, etc.
