No long-term CF solutions out there. Might have to trade for one or wait until next July to snag one. The 2013 CF crop is so much better.

  • The question is, is this lineup enough to be a contending team...

    Desmond/Lombo
    Espinosa
    Zimmerman
    Morse
    Werth
    Laroche
    Harper
    Ramos
    Pitcher

With guys like Ankiel, Nix, Gomes, etc. thrown in.

    I'm just not sure...

  • Having Rendon join the lineup next year at some point is just an embarrassment of riches. I love that kid so much.

would we rather pick up a CF and keep werth in right, or move him to CF and pick up another vet corner and roll with Nix/Shark/Ankiel(?)/vet until Harp Daddy is ready?

If you can add BJ Upton to CF relatively cheaply just do it. He can cover defensively for Mike Morse, who looked pretty bad in LF the last few weeks but has nowhere else to play. I know Upton isn't a great offensive player. But 23 homers and a .331 OBP is about as good as you're going to do given what's available. Keep Werth in RF.

At the plate, they'll just have to hope Werth bounces back, Zim gets a full season and LaRoche can get back to 25 HR and maybe an .800 OPS. That'll have to do for the offensive upgrades unless you want to trade Desmond or Espinosa.

  • Ideal offseason:

    1) Have Rizzo re-rape Bill Smith and take DSpan from the Twins for mere peanuts now that his trade value is basically non-existent. LOL @ sending them Clippard/Storen. Here, enjoy Zech Zinicola!

    2) Give me Prince. Why the hell not? Yes, Morse is a 1B, but after phase 2, Uncle Ted will not go an offseason without making it rain. That, and omg this lineup:

    Span
    Werth
    Zimmerman
    Fielder
    Morse
    Espinosa
    Ramos
    Desmond

BJ Upton would be great. 27 years old with four 4-win seasons already. They could use LaRoche, there's just no chance they get 2 WAR out of Kotchman again. LaRoche + young arm for Upton. He's a classic Rays guy. buy on the downswing, turn him into a Type B or trade deadline piece. It actually makes too much sense to happen.

Only problem is that seems like a spring training trade and Tampa won't wait that long to ditch Upton. Are the Rays really going to take LaRoche in December or January when he's still in the middle of his rehab? Just asking. Maybe they would. Then you could move Morse back to first, where he seemed passable, and find another corner outfielder for a short term until Harper is ready. Those guys grow on trees. Welcome home Josh Willingham and your 29 homers/.813 OPS/The Outfield at-bat music

SMH. The Hammer dropped Your Love in mid 2010. Time to become a full time Nats fan, sonny.

Right before laying down the smack 'em yack 'em, the Hammer walked out to the most remixable AB song of any Nat of all time.

  • So I guess that because the Indians lost tonight, we will lose our first rounder if we sign a type-A free agent.

Honestly - it's a turd free agent season. Prince would probably be worth giving up the 1st rounder and maybe someone like CJ Wilson. Pujols isn't going anywhere. And if that happens - oh well, you have Harper and Rendon on the way already. If any team can give up a mid-1st its one that's been stockpiling talent for 4 years.

What if we just keep Morse at first? I know he's going to fall from the highs he set this year, but dude can mash and if you throw him in the outfield, that makes our outfield insanely crowded, especially if we get another piece at CF. Also, are we convinced that Rendon is going to be a 2B for sure? Finally, I really like Prince Fielder, but I'm insanely afraid that he's going to go Werth on us the moment he arrives in town and gets the beetus, gout and turns alcoholic on us by June 1. Maybe I'm a total hoMORSExual, but I like Mike where he is.

Why is it assumed he'd fall from these highs? I mean, I could see some drop off, but it wasn't like he was a regular player before this year and just miraculously peaked in '11. Coltsfan is right (for once), Riggo just had something against the kid. You ride this out. As for him playing first, was he worse than average at the position? Better than average? Someone point me to the stats that say we can't win with him manning first.

Either way, in the infield, it appears we have nothing but good problems.

Apparently UZR/150 isn't great at 1B even with several years of data. Just on the eye test Morse looked fine most of the year. Range isn't great, but he wasn't dropping throws left and right like Adam Dunn would, either.

  • I'm in the camp for the Span trade. You get a leadoff hitter and CF in one stroke. We have enough good prospect to make it work.

Will the Nats extend Zimmerman. Huge question this offseason. It will affect Rendon playing 2nd or 3rd.

I like Morse at 1st. You can probably have him and LaRoach play there during the season.

I would go for Greinke in the 2013 season as my 3rd starter and be in position to win the penant. I probably resign Wang for 2012 and try for a 500 season.

We did that this year! Next year is all about winning 90.

  • pitching ... rotation is looking good, but we need to add a front-line starter like C.J. Wilson or C.C. Sabathia. The bullpen is pretty damn solid, just get rid of the weak links (ie, Doug Slaten).

  • position players ... lot of key pieces are locked in (espy, ramos, werth, morse, and extend zim). Positions to watch this offseason: SS/LF/1B/CF.

Desmond really came on strong in the second half and has a lot of fans in the front office/coaching staff, do we continue with the experiment or let him battle Lombardozzi or even go after Reyes?

Morse is going to play somewhere no matter what, so that will take care of either LF or 1B. Do we platoon Marrero/LaRoche? Or is the chosen one (the position player form) ready to be our LF?

In CF we could see Werth, but I'd really like to add B.J. Upton even if it's a short term deal until Hood/Goodwin/Perez/etc are ready.

    rufreshterps

  • Can't see Werth in CF as a serious option considering how terrible the position was this year and they still didn't move Werth over there.
