  • Yeah no doubt Welker should have caught the ball. I'd like to see it again with this new info. Still he underthrew Gronk on the INT, he threw behind Branch several times in key situations, and of course he took a safety on his first play. Just not a great day for a guy on the short list of all time greats.

  • I can't explain it, but this Redskins fan is taking great joy in Devin Thomas getting a ring. Not sure why.

  • Brady still played far beyond well enough to win. Their defense sucked like it sucked all season. All game long they played soft coverage and allowed the Giants receivers and backs out of the backfield a ton of space underneath. I think when you play that way for so long it's hard to all of a sudden change up and clamp down late in the game. Couple that with a few perfect throws from Eli and the Giants offense did just enough to win against a defensive matchup that was far easier than what the Patriots had to deal with.

If Welker catches that ball or if the Pats jump on that Bradshaw fumble, they win the game. Brady wasn't as masterful as he's been in past Super Bowls, but he definitely gave his team a great chance to win the game.

  • Their defense didn't suck. The goal is to not allow points. They allowed 19. That's pretty close to what the best D in the league did against the Giants at home two weeks ago. Their D, given their personnel, played about as well as they could. Now you can blame Belichick for not having actual good defensive backs, but that's another issue. If you had told Pats fans their D would allow 19 points, they would have taken it and expected Brady to put up more than that.

And Brady's #s were completely different after the Tuck sack/shoulder injury. Something like 20-23 before, 7-17 after (obviously there were some desperation heaves). But he wasn't close to as good after it and was even a little hesitant in the pocket.

  • Nicks should have been the MVP. Virtually unstoppable. All of the credit is going to Eli, but the receivers basically won the game for NY.

Several GREAT catches from the Giants WRs. Nicks went up and grabbed one in the first half that only guys named Megatron would catch.

  • Nicks is a stud. I tried to tell people 3 years ago, though I realize you guys had a reason to be biased. But it was so obvious he would be better than DHB. He produced. All the time. 6 receivers drafted in the first round and he was the last one (DHB, Crabtree, Maclin, Harvin, Britt) but he's by far the best right now (I know Britt had the injury).

    goheels1117

  • Nicks was drafted before Britt.

He is just an awesome player. He was a top 5 receiver in the game before the playoffs started.

  • not sure about top 5, but Nicks was injured for a good chunk of the middle of the season. He would disappear for some games too. That said, he's 24 years old and I think we've only seen a bit of his potential. The scary thing with this Giants team is how young they are.

i think new england also wins if that dope ninkovich doesnt go offsides on the 3rd and 7 in the 4th quarter...

that penalty gets overshadowed because it didnt lead to points...but if he doesnt jump new york is punting out of their own end zone...instead they went on to gain about 50 years bled five minutes off the clock and then pinned the patriots inside their own ten yard line....it was a HUGE turning point

Totally forgot about that. What an awful penalty.

I didn't watch a ton of Pats games outside of the playoffs, but I couldn't help but notice how many turds they had on the field last night. Matt Slater? Rob Ninkovich? I mean, sometimes the team with more horses just wins. And it sure as hell looked like the Giants had more horses last night. I'm not saying they should have won hands down, but their D-Line is full of studs. Their defensive backfield is pretty nasty. Their receivers are sick. Outside of QB, I don't think there was one unit where I felt the Patriots had more talent. Is this part of Belichick's plan to increase the level of difficulty on himself and die for our sins? At some point, you have to throw Brady a bone and get him another real receiver that isn't like 5'9" right? And maybe bring on a CB that isn't a 574th round pick from UMass-Lowell?

pats TEs are better obviously, o-lines about even too. the giants don't really have that good a secondary, but they were good yesterday and are obviously better than the pats

  • I don't think Nicks is top-5, and I'm the dude's biggest fan. He did finish the year 12th in yards while being hurt most of the year (even in the playoffs) and facing much heavier coverage than Cruz. And yeah, I forgot about the Britt/Nicks thing. Knew they went 28/29 but I had it backwards.

He was always unreal after the catch. Check the 3:15 mark of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QapWkd82Fw8 Best individual effort I've seen live. And then that performance in the bowl game vs. WVU was absolutely unreal

it goes both ways. Giants had a 9-3 lead with 6 minutes left in the half when they took a holding penalty on 3 and 1. They were looking at a 1st and 10 on the Pats 40 but instead punted the ball back only for the Pats to score two consecutive TD's.

    goterpss

  • Giants recovering both of their fumbles was huge too.

one happened in the 4th quarter the other in the first half

and the pats was a dead ball penalty that was preventable and frankly inexcusable

imo they arent comparable at all

I don't know about that one, it looked like he was trying to throw him away from a closing safety. If he leads him with that one Welker gets blasted and may not hang on. I think Welker catches that ball all the time.

I don't think so. Brady floated the pass and the safety still didn't get w/in 5 yds of him. High and behind him took away any chance Welker had to break his fall. Even if he is able to reel it in (great effort), it likely pops loose when he slams into the ground. Even douchebag collinsworth mentioned right before the snap "confusion in the giants secondary. The ball should have been out a little sooner and better thrown. Could Welker have made the catch? Sure but it was far from an easy grab.
