Sad News - RIP Hitmanterp

I think I took over for Smiley. Wiscy, HdeG, you, me, Kunal, Hitman were the mods when I started (99 percent sure)

Edit--that's not right. Maybe I took over for UMTerp. Smiley was still a mod. OT was added when all of the above were still mods. Maybe OT was added when UMTerp quit and I have no clue when I was added.

Hitman was my favorite mod ever - pretty much for the sole reason that he didn't do a thing. - best kind of mod!

sad to hear of his passing.

  • Terrible. Saw this thread the day it was posted and I couldn't respond because I couldn't believe it. I've been apart from the crowd we were for a few years but reading through the thread I'm reminded and amazed at how close a community a bunch of internet and sports fans can become. RIP Dane, I think I still have your vintage Expos hat. Hang in there Chris. Also, KB's idea is a good one.

    WTF

  • Terrible news. Prayers to his family and friends.

  • Wow...to echo everyone else's posts, such shocking/sad news.

Never met the guy, but it seems like the Mutley avatar has been a part of the various UMD boards that I have been checking out since '98.

  • IIRC Hitman, HdeG and I all became mods at the same time.

    MisterSmiley

  • Just saw this. Sucks. Got a chance to meet him a couple of times. Seemed like a really good guy. Condolences to those on the board that were close to him.

    UMClassof90

  • RIP. Prayers for his family.

    SupraTerp

  • Loved the avatar. RIP.

  • Chris, if you stop back by here, can you give us a short write-up about the funeral?

    I'm usually lurking around.. :)

Anyway, the funeral was really quite nice outside of what it was. A full catholic ceremony at http://www.cathedralofmary.org/tour/index.html (Cathedral of Mary Our Queen on North Charles St. In baltimore). Beautiful cathedral, his was in the Lady chapel in the back of the main chapel. It was rainy but that figures. It's all a bit surreal obviously but his family and his ex-wife (with whom he was still close with) and all of us were a bit better after the resolution of the cemetery.

I passed on the sentiments from this thread to his exwife and she was very touched and wanted me to relay to you all how he would talk of the boards and his friendships with all of you and how he missed it but life sometimes takes up the time you would normally devote to fighting the good fight on here, especially when he would spend every other weekend traveling to Ohio to visit his son or they would come here. Thanks again for taking the time to post here.

On one final note, I wore my Maryland Terps tie and his family loved it, saying how appropriate it was for Dane. Terp thru and thru.. I'd love to get his son a signed team autograph from Turgeon, wonder how hard that would be to get.

Anyway, thanks again for all the well wishes, and just like in person today with people I hadn't seen in years, sometimes sadness brings together an opportunity to reconnect, and so I hope it works on here too for me :)

  • Chris, sorry for your loss. At the the end of the day, I think we're all hoping to have family and friends remember us for all the good things that we were. You're a good friend to your buddy.

Chris.. not sure how the new regime works, but Gary and Fridge's assistants were pretty good about allowing people to sometimes drop things off for them to sign and then retrieving it later. Their email addresses are available on the umterps.com website. I think it's worth shooting them an email and seeing if there is a protocol for something like this. Maybe one of the students here would help you out with getting something there and/or getting it picked up.

  • I had not visited the board in several weeks and this was a shocking thread.

RIP Hitman. I hope you, Nanon and BigJK can watch some Terps victories together in the months ahead.

I love any team that lines up, tees it up, faces off, toes the line, or otherwise competes for the LSU purple and gold. Bless them all.

Sorry to hear, and not just because I'm 40 too. Thoughts to everyone close to him.

Leave it to a Hokie to make it about himself. Yes, many of us are in that age range you asshole.

Sorry, Hitman, we'll sweep them this year for sure.
