  • here is my opinion : I am going to come down on the side of he is "not guilty" rather than "innocent" here. thanks to a Fedex driver, Braun gets off on a technicality. I honestly dont even think he was taking anything to bulk up, etc. I think he was taking something for his "medical issue" and was dumb enough to not know what exactly he shouldnt have been taking . but, let me be clear - he still should have been suspended regardless of his stupidity.

    if I was him, I would have done the exact same thing though with the appeal stuff and the way he took apart the "system" they use for collecting samples. I appluad him for beating the system any way he could. obviously he seems like a great guy, so I am fine with him playing. I like it when the Brewers are good.

    this is very close to my feelings on the situation. i'm giving braun a little bit more credit, but it seems almost certainly that this was a one-off situation no matter what. he has passed every other drug test in his career and didnt randomly just decide to start taking steroids in the 2011 playoffs. very likely just made a dumb mistake and luckily got away with.

    also, i'm surprised so many people are siding with MLB. this is the same organization that refused testing as they watched steroids rake in millions of dollars in the 90s. its never been about the game of baseball, the players or the fans. MLB has always been about MLB. everything from drug testing to taking down videos on youtube. regardless of the verdict, MLB has handled this situation about as poorly as possible and deserves egg on their face.

    I've read that they're saying the sample wasn't properly taken care of (not refrigerated quick enough?) and that caused the high testerone reading.

    Correct- the argument was that if the sample wasn't stored properly, it can cause the testosterone reading to go up when it reaches the lab.

    A split decision here, like in boxing, leaves all parties claiming victory and foul at the same time. Now if Braun is able to back up last season with another good one when MLB is surely gunning for him it bodes well for his side, but if he shits the bed.......

    These arbitration cases always are a split decision due to 1 of the members of the arbitration panel being a representative of the MLBPA and another being a representative of the MLB with the 3rd vote coming from an independent party.

    I think the primary question should be: "How did the agreed upon process differ from what actually took place?" If both sides stated that this would be the policy for tests taken on Saturday nights and Sundays, I don't think it's the arbitrator's place to question that. If the tech didn't follow procedure, that's different, even though that unfortunately wouldn't completely exonerate Braun (but would allow him to win the appeal).

    MLB, to me, doesn't get any benefit from taking down Braun. I can see, however, why they would want to defend the integrity of the process.

  • Braun absolutely destroying this PC. Said the Brewers have detailed info on him saying his weight did not change one pound, his speed down the line or 1st to 3rd did not get faster by one tenth of a second, that he could not lift any more. A+ for him. Said that with the thousands and thousands of tests for someone to have a result that's 3 times higher than any other result raises major questions.
