1. Duke, 2 titles plus the great 98-99 team. Their one mediocre year would be very good by our standards of the last decade.
2. UConn, had the most championships but some mediocre years, too. Their last championship team wasn't very good, either.
3. Kansas, only one NCAAT but consistently elite
4. UNC, mostly very good with a few of down years.
5. Kentucky. I considered Michigan State but Kentucky had more elite teams.

Can't say I disagree with that list. I think Syracuse is the only team that has a chance to sneak in there.

The resume for Michigan St. is too shabby..........2000 NCAA Champs; 2009 National Runner up, Final Four appearances in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2009, and 2010; 14 straight NCAA Tourney Appearances and 12 years with at least 20 wins.

Yeah I'd say that's the list. Michigan State and Florida (3 National title game appearances with two wins and a bunch of other terrible seasons) would probably be in the discussion as well.
Obviously Hogie has some other idea up his sleeve since none of these programs are particularly mind blowing.

I haven't looked at numbers or anything, but I'd have to put Michigan State ahead of Kansas at this point, though obviously that could change pretty quickly. Seems like it's a question of tournament success versus regular season success. Both have the same number of titles, but Michigan State has a reputation for exceeding expectations in March, while Kansas (justifiably or not) has a reputation for underperforming.

1. Duke - (4 FF, 2 NC, crushed the ACC tourn)
2. UCONN - (4 FF, 3 NC)
3. Carolina - (6 FF, 2 NC)
4. Michigan St. - (6 FF, 1 NC)
5. Kansas - (3 FF, 1 NC)

I just don't see how number of titles doesn't trump everything.
1. Connecticut
2. Duke
3. North Carolina
4. Florida
5. Michigan State
Obviously Duke has been by far the most consistent of the 2-title teams in that span so they're an easy 2 despite neither of their titles actually being legit. Michigan State wins the tiebreaker over Kansas (and others) with significantly more Final Fours.
