  • Decent look at what the new CBA means for the draft.

And With the Fourth Pick.... Deja Vu All Over Again - Camden Chat

The draft class is similar, but the rules have changed... what will the Orioles do with the fourth pick in the 2012 draft?

  • From today's KLaw chad:

    Brian (Gilbert, AZ)

Bundy and Bradley have both pitched very well so far, but how come the Orioles are only having bundy go 3 innings while the Dbacks have let Bradley go 5 and 6 innings?
    Klaw
    (3:06 PM)

I don't know. I prefer Arizona's approach. Pitchers need to learn to turn pro lineups over three times. Putting Bundy on the Taillon plan won't accomplish that - and I don't know that there's any firm evidence that it keeps pitchers healthy, either. We know overwork is bad, but that doesn't imply that underwork is good.

    Mike (Arlington, VA)

Since Bundy has struck out 12 of the 18 batters he has faced this season (while allowing no hits or walks). Do you see the Orioles wasting much more of his time at Delmarva?
    Klaw
    (3:09 PM)

He should be in AA, and again, going longer per outing. We're likely overrating him because he can amp up for a shorter outing and doesn't have to face any hitters three times. But he belongs in AA anyway.

    Phil (AZ)

Would you rather have Teheran through 2015 or Bundy through 2016? Yes, it's a fantasy-related question, and I don't need innings from either in 2012.
    Klaw
    (3:41 PM)

Bundy. This likely won't happen, but there's a chance that the top 2 prospects in baseball next winter will both be Orioles.

    Don (Quad Cities)

Is there anyone in the minors right now that you'd predict with an obp of .400?
    Klaw
    (3:39 PM)

I think a healthy Rendon could do that. I think Trout will do it. I'm starting to think Machado might end up there.

    Andy (Fairless Hills)

Machado looks to be up to the challenge in Bowie. Smart idea to put him and Schoop there?
    Klaw
    (3:32 PM)

Machado for sure. Schoop surprised me. Don't think he's that advanced as a hitter.

  • The plan, I believe, is for Bundy to pitch from April until Labor Day instead of shutting him down in July once he's reached his innings limit.

    jsh

  • I still don't believe that teams drafting in the top 10 are going to have a huge problem signing draft picks. It's hard to see a high school kid is not signing for 4.2 million because he thinks he can get maybe 750,000 more in 3 years time by going 1 or 2 spots higher that really doesn't make sense.

  • Nice outing for Tillman tonight. 5.2 IP, no runs, 8 strikeouts, 8 groundouts, 1 flyout. 3 hits, 2 walks, 100 pitches.

  • It makes me feel great about the future that even law says we may have the top 2 prospects in the game come winter.

Law had Machado 4 and the top 3 are not going to be prospects by next year. Plus Bundy will be moving into the top 5 at worst barring any setbacks. Depending on who is drafted in June, the O's could conceivably have 3 of the top 10 or 15 prospects in baseball.

  • Throw in another top 3 pick and Jorge Soler, then things are really cooking.

    turtleinchains

  • Soler better get his shit together. Less than 3 months until the international cap gets put in.

  • At least the farm system is doing better (albeit early) than it ever has

er I shouldn't say doing, I guess looking better. I don't care if they win as long as the prospects are developing and looking like they can contribute at a high level

  • Is Ohlman still catching for Delmarva?

Also can anyone can help me confirm that Bundy will or wont be pitching Monday at home for Delmarva? I've got a buddy who's swearing he is and has bought about a dozen tix for our group of friends and some peoples dads to go see this kid. Hoping there's not an epic letdown

Ohlman was in a car accident in ST. Hit by a drunk driver. I believe he's on the DL.

  • Bundy pitched Wednesday night, so yes he should line up to pitch again on Monday night.

    isn't delmarva on a 6 man rotation?

Possibly, but Bundy's 2 starts were the 6th and 11th, so it seems like they are keeping him on a 5-day schedule.

  • Steve Melewski ‏ @masnSteve

Dylan Bundy's next outing is likely to be Tuesday at Delmarva and will probably be another 3 IP game. They may bump to 4 IP after that.

    jsh

  • I'm not looking to dampen the enthusiasm over Dylan Bundy, and I'm fully convinced that he's the real deal, but it's probably worth noting that he had a few rough outings at minor league camp before joining Single-A Delmarva. I heard he didn't get out of an inning. Something along those lines. So there may be instances where he doesn't strike out two-thirds of the batters he faces.

School of Roch: This, that and the other

The Orioles have been on both sides of a three-game sweep. They've already got two firsts out of the way in the 2012 season. Now ...

  • The bats at Delmarva are having a little more trouble than I imagined. Especially Esposito since he played in the sec

At least schoop had a solid game finally

    Meast

  • Definitely nice to see from Schoop. AA is definitely an aggressive assignment for him at his age. If he can hold his own this year there, I'm very excited.

    fearthenoodle

  • Schoop was terrible in his first month at Frederick last year before he began tearing it up. He knows how to make adjustments, I'm not too worried about his slow start.

  • So when did the O's sign Joel Piniero?

    jsh

  • 2 days ago i think. depth for the rotation, obviously. think he was inserted in the norfolk rotation

2 days ago. He's going to extended spring for a couple weeks, I believe and then to AAA. DD said he wanted a RHP who could serve as a long man now that Simon is gone.
