  • 4 questions/hypotheticals to kill some time today

    1) Should the Mariners be shopping Felix Hernandez? Seems like he'd be a better version of 2007 Bedard as far as what return they could get.

    2) Will the Mariners shop King Felix?

    3) Could the O's put together a package including Bundy or Machado (not both) to get Hernandez?

    4) Should the O's look into #3 above?

I read that this morning but Passan is such a chump. Clearly has flyover inferiority complex.

    1) Probably
    2) Probably not
    3) Possibly. Hard to guage what other teams would be in but I think if you're a team with a top 10 prospect you're willing to part with them for Felix.
    4) No. His velocity is down 2 mph this season, big red flag.

  • lol, only 3 losses for the entire American League yesterday: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp?tcid=mm_mlb_standings

AL East won all its games/ NL East lost all its games.

  • Why did Andino hit leadoff yesterday? I thought we were done with that?

    Only when Roberts is playing.

You know who should start the AS game? Adam Jones and Andrew McCutcheon. If MLB was interested in trying to market the game and certain players to a specific demographic, that would be the way to go.

  • @jcrasnick
    Unsung bullpen contributor: #Orioles Darren O'Day has a 32-4 K-to-BB ratio, 0.80 WHIP, 1.72 ERA and .189 BA against. @DODay56

Pedro Strop & Luis Ayala have also been very good for #orioles in support of closer Jim Johnson. Big reason for team's success

Velocity down + his change now is not that different from his fastball=bad news. When you look at guys like Hernandez and Lincecum who both rely heavily on FB/Change combo when your FB velocity goes down it effects both pitches because generally speaking your change will stay the same velocity. Hernandez went from 6-7mph difference between FB/Change to now 2.5mph diffrence. Lincecum went 9-10mph difference down to just 7mph difference and now both throw their breaking balls a lot more than they use too.

  • Balanced bullpen.

    Strop 31.2 IP
    O'Day 31.1 IP
    Patton 31.1 IP
    Ayala 31 IP
    Johnson 29.2 IP

  • Not that it isn't necessarily true, but I think it's comical how literally every week there is a new article by a national writer about how the Red Sox are still really good, and how they are still a major WS threat.

Boston Red Sox still could win AL East - MLB News | FOX Sports on MSN

Boston Red Sox still could win AL East, if they make a few tweaks. Boston Red Sox still could win AL East

I don't see how Jim Johnson wouldn't be a lock for the all-star team. He doesn't strike out a ton of guys, but his ERA, WHIP, BAA, and save number puts him among the elite in baseball.

Among MLB pitchers with 10 or more saves, he's 2nd in saves, 2nd in ERA, 1st in WHIP, and 2nd in BAA. He should be a lock.

  • No interest in a guy like King Felix, who is hurt and would cost a ton to get.

I'd tread carefully when it comes to us making trades to make a run at this thing this year. It's not like we are going to win the World Series. The team should be building itself toward being a competitive, contending ballclub year in and year out. Don't want to make any mistakes that could stop us from doing that by trying to win this year.

    charmcity3131

  • You absolutely have to try and augment this year's team at this point to try and make the playoffs. Just don't trade Bundy or Machado.

Jeez Buck. How about getting Johnson some work already.

Well, if dumbass Ron Washington really takes Robbie Ross, Joe Nathan, and Yu Darvish (none of whom probably deserve to make the team), then it could happen.

why? of course it isn't likely, but you can say the same thing for every team except for maybe texas and NYY. what other teams are clearly better than us? at some point the mentality has to change. they've been doing this for over 1/3rd of a season now.

AlphaOmega said... im sorry i was confusing...your "Superbowl" was the Redskins losing since you know that the Ravens cant win it all.

Season is now 40% over. You have to buy in at a certain point, and you pretty much owe it to the players, coaches and fans to go for it.

  • the Cardinals have won two world series' in the past 10 years and both times they were perceived as the weakest team entering the playoffs.

  • I just think we would be in big trouble when it came to pitching matchups in the playoffs, although most contenders this year actually don't really feature terrific starting pitching.

    charmcity3131

  • If you make the playoffs, you absolutely have a chance to win it all. Look at St. Louis last year.

You don't sell off the future for one year, but you have to do something before the deadline to get stronger.

  • You really only need a 4 man rotation in the postseason anyways. The O's are 3/4 of the way there already (Hammel, Chen, Garza when they get him next month).

    bkmalik

  • Bullpen has been just amazing...it's another thing you have to put at the feet of the DD/Buck team. GMs seem to have a quicker affect on building a bullpen than on most other parts of a team, and obviously how the manager uses them and establishes roles for them in which they can succeed and build confidence is critical.

At this point, if all the relievers were healthy, I have confidence seeing each of these relievers come into a game: Johnson, Strop, O'Day, Patton, Ayala...and the early returns on Miguel Gonzalez were good. Can you imagine if Lindstrom and Pomeranz were healthy AND if we had actually got Texas to send Koji back to us back in March? That might have been the sickest bullpen of all time.
