We have 50 years of loserdom stored up. We're never good ever, period.

    LOL.

  • I'd counter with Lovable Losers of the early 60s, the doldrums of the late 70s, Worst Team money Can Buy, the Wilpon ownership, the stadium named after a disgraced bank who took federal bailout money, Vince Coleman, etc. etc. etc.

We assume the wheels come off, not hope they don't.

  • 2 WS and 4 NL Pennants in 50 years. Mets "loserdom" is overrated. Unless you're the Yankees every franchise experiences down cycles, and even the Yankees have down cycles.

You're not going to get a lot of sympathy from a fanbase that has had 14 consecutive losing seasons and 2 playoff appearances in 30 years.

    jsh

  • Mets only think they are "losers" because they live in the same house as the Homecoming King, and because their best chance at a dynasty they sniffed up their nose

    Flops

  • We aren't necessarily "losers", we are just vastly overshadowed by our billionaire neighbors who consistently put out championship contenders. We are the epitome of a team that suffers from Little Brother Syndrome. With that said, after two collapses in a row and a heartbreaking Game 7 NLCS vs. the Cards, we expect the worst at all times.

  • Friday night's game against the Nats is almost sold out. Most of the sections that still have tickets left only have one or two tickets available. Good amount of tickets still left in the upper deck for Saturday. I guess Nat fans are too scared to purchase tickets up there.

  • comparing the Mets to the Orioles isn't really fair. For being in the largest media market, it's a woefully unsuccessful franchise.

The Mets scored 29 runs in a 3-game sweep of Tampa Bay last week. They faced David Price and Jeremy Hellickson.

With the same lineup we saw last night? Where a pitcher hitting .100 started the rally? Where a guy hitting under .200 (at the time) rips a double to the LF wall and a guy hitting under .200 deposits the first pitch in a bases loaded, 2 out situation, in the seats?

Well, the Mets DH was hitting .184 the day they scored 11 runs. Plus they had 2 other guys batting south of .190 in the lineup that day

Obviously that's not humanly possible for a team, to randomly score a lot of runs in baseball, a sport in which literally anything on earth can happen from day to day.

The next day they switched to the DH batting .207, yet only scored 9 runs (still with 3 batters south of .200 though). My brain can't handle these contradictions, when will things make sense.

Plus their starting C that day had an OPS of .456 (that's OBP+SLG), yet he somehow went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI (for the old guys!)

Somehow it is possible to score runs even with guys that can't hit.

Yes, the line-up was very similar. I'm not sure how they scored last night has anything to do with whether the line-ups were similar or not.

What about a team that has guys with a .290 and .190 OBPs leading off most of the year. Like, I don't know, the Orioles did for most of May and June?

You can play that game with any team in the league. The Red Sox have been batting Youklis 5th in the last week and he's hitting .215 with only 9 extra-base hits all year.

And what does that have to do with the lineup Jake faced last night. Annoy someone else please.

Frankly, after looking at the numbers, I'm not sure how the Mets have ever scored a run. I mean like all season. It's a total shock they have been shut out every game since mid-April.

Its a nice niche that they carve out for themselves where they can legitimately smack talk 80% of the franchises if they feel like it, and then play the loveable loser, woe-is-me card because they don't win as much as the Yankees when the mood strikes them.

LOL. The Mets lineup isn't great but it is waaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Pittsburgh's. Wright, Duda and Davis is solid.

I'll give you wright and duda but Davis?

For the last time, Davis was good last year and has turned things around this month. Just because he is hitting .190 through 2 1/2 months doesn't mean he is terrible. Pujols didn't pull out of his slump all that long ago, either. Neuhwenheis also isn't bad (probably butchered the spelling but oh well).

I was pretty surprised when I pulled up his baseball reference page earlier (Nieuwenheis or whatever)

    80%?

  • How dumb does one have to be to aggressively argue that offenses that have scored 301 and 222 runs respectively are comparable?

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

    Omar Little

  • He's going to have to go rehab at least a few games somewhere, right? I assume that means he won't be back this weekend.
