And i do not understand your post on my Clinton Portis comment.

He was a baller who gave great effort despite being surrounded by a BoD.

  • He also practiced with his hands in his pockets, refused to play in the preseason and was a constant diva distraction. His lack of preperation played a big part in his constant injuries towards the end.

Totally agree that he brought it on game day. But he wasn't worth the baggage, especially after his legs gave out and he was no longer able to explode through the hole. Oh yeah, and that part about going down untouched against the Rams kind of bugged me too.

Give me team guys vs. prima donnas every time.

...because he was injured then, giving a lot of effort on a play that meant nothing for the team in the regular season.

You can't really blame him for that.

Sure I can. I remember the play well, he gave a huge hit and as always he gave it his all on the field. But getting hurt in the preseason should not allow a star player to dictate that he will no longer be playing in the preseason. I can't believe any of you really think that this is a successful formula. Star players should never be allowed to sit out practice whenever they felt like it because the coach had no power and the owner coddled the stars. Players practice hurt all the time because they need the reps. There is no question in my mind that had he worked as hard on Mon-Sat as he did on Sundays he would have been more prodiuctive and had fewer injuries.

Think Ray Lewis would have refused to play in the preseason or to practice because he just didn't feel like it or was worried about getting hurt? Me neither. And that's why Ray Lewis led teams win and teams led by the likes of Clinton Portis do not.

Lol, this seems more like the chippendales version than Spanish... Not a big fan of it needless to say

    That's racist.

And I think I'm more offended by "Viva Los Redskins" than I was about the Pitbull/Wyclef Jean/Gloria Tañon spanish Star Spangled Banner.

  • Yeah Clinton portis was one of the bigger problems on the team. He would CONSTANTLY create drama and drama creates a terrible atmosphere.

    Not sure if serious.

Running back is the position least needing of a pre-season. I wouldn't let my lead back even in the stadium during the pre-season.

Nah i could care less about him not wanting to play in the preseason. I agree thats pretty worthless in my eyes.

But him constantly going on the radio or being interviewed and saying things that shouldnt have been said publicly, like ripping coaches or players, was a HUGE problem.

Do you think it was a healthy situation to allow the star RB to dictate when he will or won't play or practice? Can you think of one situation where that would be a good thing? He was Alan Iverson part II. Players practice for a reason, to get the timing down with the OL and to get in shape. On top of the divisive nature of his attitude he was constantly hurt and there is a very good probability that his lack of practice played a part.

And then there was the off field stuff. He complaining to the owner that the coach (Zorn) was too tough on him for (get this) yelling at him for practicing with his hands in his pockets. Then Snyder and Vinny The Rat called Zorn in and demanded the coach apologize. Again for yelling at a player for practicing with his hands in his pocket.

This was not a winning formula.

  • By the way I know he is a Maryland guy and all but I did get a kick out of Heyer's performance on Monday. Only saw him for 3 plays, back to back false starts followed by a play where he was glued to the ground so he didn't get a third. He was then benched for the rest of the game.

I am so glad he is no longer here. WTF were the Raiders thinking?

God I hope so but not if it means risking another injury. This defense hasn't even seen one of it's best players yet, how cool is that?

    DarrellGreenFan

  • For some reason, and I know i'll get a bunch of shit for it... But I'm not as down on Reed Doughty as everyone else. Is he Laron Landry? Absolutely not. He's a pretty good safety against the run and plays pretty well along the line of scrimmage. He can't cover for shit but, playing to his strengths as a backup safety, I think we could do much worse.

One of my friends is a trainer for the Skins and says Reed is one of the nicest guys in the world so I always root for him....but he's terrible.

Maybe it's me being a nice guy too...Maybe I know that he's terrible so I can't get mad at him when he lets Nicks run 20 yards behind him on 3rd and long...

He did have 9 tackles and 2 assists last week, good for 8th in the league for the week.

  • Yeah hes decent against the run but hes always getting torched for atleast one long pass play. But then again so is Landry..

    dpatt173redux

  • I'm much more down on our tackles than our safeties. The Giants make a lot of o-lines look silly, but the way both tackles were abused is inexcusable.

Yeah I kind of feel this way too. I won't go so far as to call him pretty good but you would have thought he was Matt Steven the way people have been talking this week.

    DarrellGreenFan

  • Agree, Trent Williams did a Heyer impersonation last week. It seems to me like he struggles against the Giants more than any other team - I remember Osi just eating him up last year too. He has to play better or a shift to right tackle or even guard is in his future.

And I like Reed Doughty, agree he seems like a nice guy, but he is not a starting quality safety in this league. I know he is a backup, but if you want to be a playoff team ou have to start getting starting quality players even in backup roles.

I do think that Pierre Paul is an absolute freak of a DE though so I am willing to take a wait and see approach on Williams this year.
