Official Ravens Off-Season Thread (Rice Signed)

I dont know that they plan to franchise RR. I think a longer deal is probably the aim. Franchise is usually the last option.

They way they take their time with these deals, rice will get the franchise.

  • What are they going to do with the CBs? Webb and Williams are FAs(Williams is RFA). Webb is too good to lose.

  • webb was incredible this year...no receiving TDs allowed I believe. i feel like we just drafted him yesterday.

  • Webb and Williams are both restricted. Webb is getting the max tender.

  • PFF has their top 50 FA list, and is starting to do breakdowns on their top 10 per position (including things like edge rusher). They're also ignoring guys likely to be franchised (Rice, Brees, Forte) and restricted FAs that will get maxed out by their current teams (Webb).

The Ravens listed are Grubbs (25) and Johnson (30). Terps on the list are Gaither (17), Erin Henderson (26), D'Qwell (35).

Problem with that is is is now only a 1st round pick(instead of 1 and 3)...someone like the Pats or Packers with a low first round will be more willing to lose what is basically a 2nd round pick for a player like Webb at a need position. It basically comes down to would you trade a first round pick for the player? Steelers have the same issue with Wallace. He is definitely worth a late first rounder.

We still have the ability to match any offer so a team would have to vastly overpay to pry them away from us.

Of course, but teams will be more likely to overpay and a 1st instead of overpay and a 1st and a 3rd. Even if they don't over pay they will likely be offering more than the Ravens would like to spend. The old system made it rare to offer a player tagged for a 1st and 3rd at all. No one would touch Webb or Wallace for that price. The union wanted this because there will be more big money offers.

Ravens tagged several people with 1&3 tag over the years.

I said it was rare to offer a player tagged, not to tag them...

  • So aside from the obvious. Burfict and Konz. Who is on everyones big board?

Personally I want a pass rusher. if Andre Branch is there...snatch and run.

Vinny Curry a high motor DE/OLB from Marshall might be there in the 2nd. Kendall Reyes a 6-4 300 pd. DT/DE from UConn that played well in the Senior Bowl also might be an option in the 2nd if Redding is not re-signed.

We dont need to ask those guys to restructure. IF WE want to win rings, its important to keep our best players on the field, and treat them right. Ray and Ed are earning their money, straight up.

We are currently $10million under the cap. With the possibility of being $19mil under the cap if we cut Foxoworth, Carr and Lee Evans. We could also restructure those guys. But I would be willing to part ways with all of them. And I do love Foxworth, but hes the biggest question mark of the bunch in all honesty. Theres more info on the division and their cap situations on ravens.com

We need help in places (all discussed here earlier), and the cap number will be gobbled up. FO is negotiating with Flacco's agent getting the lay of the land. Then there is the Ray Rice negotiation next year. I agree that Foxworth, Carr, Lee Evans, Kundiff possibly Birk, JJ, and another surprise or two, may not be with the team, but I believe Lewis will be asked to restructure.

Ravens Front Office (Biscotti, Ozzie, et al) will be expected to come up with a good draft, good FA picks, and put us in the best position to do well next year. My take on Caldwell is he might be Offensive Coordinator in waiting.

  • I dont even want Mike Wallace. I hope the steelers lose him, but we definitely dont need him

  • Yeah -- where is this coming from? My roommate told me he "read someone's facebook status and they were talking about MW coming to the Ravens" which I immediately dismissed but I keep hearing more rumors. I would obviously like it but I don't see it happening, not an Ozzie move.

    WheresWallace

  • He would cost too much money and receiver isn't a huge need IMO with Boldin and Torrey on the team...spend that money on keeping Rice, Webb, and if possible Grubbs.

  • The FO already said this draft is deep at WR. Meaning there will be some player available in the latter rounds. Im sure we will take our chances again.

how good is Boldin moving forward? Can Torrey be a #1?

we might not need a #1 right now, but it could be a need very soon.

The way they are talking about him, we might be able to get Alshon Jefferey in the 8th round.
