Cards are done. Mentally out when Wainwright went down. Team does not like Larussa, defense is suspect and the bullpen is a mess. Lucky if they go .500 this year.

Hope it's true but somehow doubt it. They have Pujols. Losing Holliday is going to hurt a lot though.

I'm a huge Cards fan, but I don't think they'll contend seriously again with LaRussa. Too many issues. Last year's team basically quit on him. Lots of clubhouse issues which they tried to help with the Berkman signing, but remains to be seen what he has left. What you basically have now is a station-to-station offensive team that doesn't play nearly the defense of past Cardinal teams...that defense (Rolen, Edmonds, etc) was a key in getting the most out of pitchers like Jeff Suppan. I think those days are over.
Cards are better off letting Pujols walk. They aren't a rich enough club to have that much money tied up in Holliday and Pujols.

This Pirates-Cubs game has been interesting. Pirates just took the lead off Carlos Marmol, scoring two runs on a blooper over the mound.
In the 8th, the Cubs threw out the potential tying run on a really nice 9-2.
Matt Garza pitched 7 innings, struck out 12, walked nobody...and allowed 12 hits, all singles. .571 BABIP.
