the reds are the consensus choice for nl central champ of espn writers. almost as surprising as the reds keeping chapman in a relief role lol.

corey hart will start the season on the 15-day dl retroactive to march 22nd. also, it appears the shaun marcum is on schedule to make his opening start on saturday.
it was an ugly spring training for the brewers on the injury front, but it looks like they will make it out relatively unscathed.

I have no idea what is going to happen in this division, except that the Astros are going to be terrible.

14 of the Reds first 16 are against Houston, AZ, SD and Pitts. One west coast road trip over with quickly.

i like the brewers chance of winning the division. Even if Greinke is out for April, they will have Shawn Marcum and Yovani Gallardo manning the rotation. Their lineup also equals that of any other ballclubs in the league. Although, I'm still not sold on Rickie Weeks.

How are the Pirates going to surprise people? I mean, they have some nice pieces on offense (Alvarez, McCutchen, Walker, Jones, Tabata) but none of them are really superstars and their rotation/pen is god awful.

fyi no player in baseball had more at bats than rickie weeks last season.
and greinke's injury is hardly "serious". if anything he will be fresh for sept/october.

The offense should be there for the Pirates. I think 1-6 in the order is pretty solid. The pitching is another story. But we should be fun to watch. We have a crop of solid pitchers in AAA who might make their debut this year, especially when our rotation inevitably struggles with injuries/batters.

The Pirates are definitely on the upswing but I don't see them anywhere close to .500. We shall see.

Albert Pujols is 0-5 and has grounded into 3 DPs. If he continues at this pace, the Pirates may have a shot at him. Although I'm not sure he'd be an upgrade over Lyle Overbay.
