Now that it's shown on tv, I thought Forde had a good read on Yahoo. Interesting stuff as people are questioning whether Phelps/Bowman mistimed the tapering and if he might have peaked in Omaha. Obviously to early to tell, but I thought it was interesting.

I think this is the case. I was stunned that he actually beat Lochte in two events in Omaha. Lochte swam two seconds faster today too while Phelps lost two seconds.

can someone who understands better then I do explain how qualifying works for gymnastics? Does everyone advance, or just a certain number? I thought I heard that all scores reset, so does that make this essentially a practice? Basically, I'm asking why I should be nervous for the US now

Competition format
The Olympic Artistic Gymnastics competition has four phases: qualification, Team final, Individual All-Around final and individual apparatus finals.
All gymnasts compete in the qualifications. The best eight teams then go through to the Team final, where three team members compete on each apparatus. Teams are ranked on their total score.
The best 24 individual gymnasts (maximum two from each country) go through to the Individual All-Around final, where gymnasts compete on all apparatus. The best eight gymnasts on each apparatus (maximum two from each country) go through to the individual apparatus finals.
Each apparatus is judged for difficulty and execution, with the highest scoring athlete the winner.

this is the preliminaries to determine which teams go to the finals. scores from this round also count as qualifiers for the all-around and individual apparatus finals

How many full teams are there? When they showed the Irish dude's sob story I think they said Ireland only had 2 gymnasts. That's not a full team I take it?
