  • Also, reffing nerd in me thinks the third goal shouldn't have been allowed. Pretty sure the ball wasn't on the field for the restart. At least it didn't make a difference in the result.

Their attack wasn't the (primary) problem for Vancouver though. Their defense blew, and I'm not convinced it's going to be that much better once they start playing good teams.

I'm just going to pretend you didn't make a "they had a good preseason!!!!!!!" argument.

Well we will have to see. I think they're going to be good. But the West is loaded so they'll all beat each other up a little bit.

I'd love to but I have an incredibly busy schedule including vacations planned for the next year. Almost no free weekends. DC plays there in September. I could maybe try to make it happen. TImbers Army would let me tailgate with them right? Even if I'm in United clothing?

  • Not really any traditional tailgating because Jeld-Wen is right downtown. It is a bummer, especially as that's always been one of my favorite parts of the DC United experience, but the trade off is a million bars and restaurants to pregame at then walk over, which is also pretty awesome.

And yea, you'd likely have no problem with the TA people. Aside from the fact that this is friggin' Portland, not Philly, is that little bit of MLS brotherhood that seems to stem from years of "lol, did you bring your orange slices?" and/or "ugghh, I support Arsenal so I can't stomach this crap." I've watched plenty of away games without incident with TA heads that know I'm a DC fan. The few times I've gotten into it with people is when I just happen to be at a bar and the self back patting becomes so deafening that I can't hold my drunken tongue.

  • Ha, nah I don't read the EPL threads regularly enough to remember everyone's affiliations, and so many of you get into pissing matches with Larry that I can't keep track!

I can't remember which clubs those guys support. Honestly it's all the same thing. Pick one of 8-10 elite clubs in Europe, come up with some kind of reason why you have a legitimate attachment to the team, read a bunch of wikis, regurgitate anything said by Sky Sports, pretend you've been a fan for years, laugh at MLS because you're too sophisticated of a soccer fan to watch such garbage. That's not to say all fans of Euro soccer are like this. I love European soccer. There are many people on this board with a healthy attitude and appreciation for their own domestic league even if they prefer not to watch it. We just have some Yankees/Duke/Lakers guys here as well.

That's really bizarre and poorly done. I could barely tell it was for NE until the end.

Also, Seattle vs Santos Laguna starting right now. 8 PM on FSC. Seattle won 2-1 at home in the first leg. Not super confident that they'll hold on but it would be really great if they did. I'm worried about Santos blowing them out actually. At 10 LA hosts Toronto in the 2nd leg of their quarter final. They tied 2-2 in Toronto last week.

  • I was ready to make fun of Portland for that until I realized that it was a New England ad. Bizarre. What a horrible slogan for that team of all teams to use too.

Love seeing Seattle get blown out.

This is like Fulham-QPR all over again.

  • Ugh.... That was horrible. It was so close to being very dramatic. Seattle had 2 really great chances to make it 2-2 early in the second half, one of which I think might have been a PK. If that happens then the rest of that half is completely different. They're not trying to chase the game in altitude and they don't get caught on all those counter attacks. Not very hopeful for LA or Toronto against them in the next round.

  • Shocking, Seattle has to go on the road and gets worked over. Funny how things work when you can't just literally buy an advantage through a tournament.

Also, hopefully Jurgen was watching and realizes that a guy that reliably scores goals isn't someone we can just afford to ignore.

Yea my Timbers buddy tipped me to that...well, whatever the fuck that is. I'm trying to get his bitchass to start posting here now. Need more MLS heads around here.

  • So is there any doubt that Omar is/was the actual MVP of LA? This defense blows without him.

LA better go through, I can't stand a world where shitty Toronto FC is in the Champions League semifinals.

    gsterp

  • I guess an own goal will do

as for LA's defense, yikes without Omar. I wish he didn't hurt his knee, he's going to be a beast.

    patterp09

  • what a disastrous night for MLS. Absolutely ridiculous for LA to lose at home to this garbage team.

    patterp09

  • I'm rooting for Santos now (assuming Metapan doesn't pull a miracle draw at Pumas).
