I love Cavani ... but the guy in Naples I have a huge crush on is Lavezzi. His pace and explosiveness is what makes that whole system work. I'm not sure there's a player in world football who makes me go "ooooooooohhhhh" as many times in a season as he does. Every time he gets the ball with a space near the half line I expect fireworks.
Lost in all this EPL v. Serie A stuff is that the CL is largely about matchups. Spurs took apart the Milanese teams with pace on the wings last year, something the aging Inter and A.C squads were very susceptible to. Same with Napoli against an older Chelsea squad this year. This year Milan got a much better matchup with an Arsenal team who don't really punish you with pace, etc.

No. I think Lavezzi is a pretty good player, but I don't agree with this at all. I think Hamsik and Cavani are more vital to Napoli's success than Lavezzi. He also doesn't do what he did to Chelsea all the time. I think he's a lesser version of Mata.

Count me in with the Lavezzi makes Napoli go crowd. I think Mata is awesome but a different type of player than Lavezzi. I also think this idea that Napoli is strictly a negative team who never holds possession is a bit unfounded. They're extremely dangerous at counterattacking but also hold possession for extended periods against good teams as well.
