I still think they shut him down. Rizzo doesn't fuck around. As much as fun as this is, Rizzo has always had his eyes on next year.

I'll be very curious to see what they do at the trading deadline. If they add a #2 or #3 type starter, that's a sure sign Strasburg is getting shut down but they don't want to roll with just Gio/JZimm/Edwin in the playoffs.

I'd never understand trading for more pitching. Why give up prospects for more pitching instead of using them to acquire the bat that the Nats actually need? Trading for pitching at this deadline would mean you're goal is 2012, which means shutting down Strasburg is a terrible decision.

Greinke would be so perfect here. No pressure to be our ace, no overbearing scrutiny from the media or fans, and he can just blend into an already sick rotation.

You push Strasburg's first start after the All-Star game to the fifth game back. Based on how the rotation shakes out that's a July 6 start with the next one on July 17. The Nats are then off on Aug. 23 and Aug. 27. Have SS start Aug. 18 and then run with a four-man rotation until Sept. 6.
Because of those days off during that stretch you'd only need one spot start from a Triple-A guy [HOF Lannan!). Strasburg's been past the 6th inning only 3 times this year so it's safe to assume he'd be at around 145 innings under this scenario on Sept. 6 and about 175 after the regular season. Then at most you'd need 30 more innings in the playoffs - 5 starts total and that's if you went 5-7-7 in the three series.
