interesting. I cannot see this new stadium being a big success down there, but we will see. Pro Player/Joe Robbie or whatever it is called now obviously sucked and was a miserable experience for baseball, so this will be an improvement. I've been to games at both Montreal and Miami, and think Montreal's stadium was actually a lot better.
The site of the old Orange Bowl is hard to get too, in a bad area, not near businesses or residential areas.

So, thoughts on Mike Matheny? This seems like a real reach for the Cardinals. Sure, he's a smart guy, but he's never been a manager at any level before. I don't think he was even a coach, wasn't he a roving instructor? With all the guys out there, how do they land on Matheny?

The draft is also likely to see a soft cap on signing bonuses. ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports that the first 10 rounds will still have slot recommendations and clubs that go over a cumulative cap for those rounds will pay a tax.
The kicker here is that going over the cumulative bonus limit a time -- it's unclear if that means consecutively or within a specific time frame or ever, even -- the penalty is a high draft pick. That's quite steep.

That Justin Verlander was just named the unanimous American League Cy Young award winner should surprise no one who was paying any kind of attention to major league baseball this season. Verlander was the clear choice for the award after a season in which he won the pitching triple crown with the AL lead in wins (24), strikeouts (250) and ERA (2.40), while also leading the major leagues in the first two of those categories as well as in innings (251), WHIP (0.92), ERA+ (170), and fewest hits allowed per nine innings (6.2).
