All depends on what that team does. If they win they're going to draw.

The Marlins have managed better than 28th in attendance exactly once in the past 11 seasons, when they managed 26th. They won the damn Series in 2003 and still only managed 28th. I'm not convinced South Florida cares about baseball at all.

They were discussing the fish behind homeplate for those not watching. He really is an unapolagetic moron

It's ownerships' fault, not the fanbases. Even the most optimistic fans will stop coming to the park when you constantly turn over your roster and keep payroll at a minimum all while pocketing mountains of cash through baseball's revenue sharing.

Add in a terrible stadium and the Miami weather during summer and it's not hard to understand why they don't draw well. Miami's middle of the road TV ratings indicate better fan support than their attendance does.

Forgetting my feelings about the Yankees as a Met fan.......can someone explain why a great franchise with awesome history, and a crap load of money has such awful broadcast teams. Sterling while entertaining in a 10 seconds snip is a clown who has no clue what is going on....and the TV crew is just awful. Kay is a newspaper writer, and while they have some decent analysts...the broadcasts are just not good.

they responsible for the dolphins pathetic attendance over the years too? miami is just not a good sports town........

  • Dolphins ownership doesn't seem that great either but I don't really know much about them.

If the Marlins have poor attendance this year than I'll write off the area as having a poor fanbase. Citing their attendance over the past decade, even with the title, is like saying the Orioles have a terrible fanbase because they haven't drawn well the past 10 years. There's a lot more to the story than just an apathetic fanbase.

Living in Miami for the past 8 months, I can tell you, nobody here cares about the Marlins. To be fair, I obviously don't have the pulse of the entire fanbase, but this is just not a sports town.

They have exciting players, so it's hardly ownership. Besides, I'd rather the Orioles go the Marlins route than the middle of the road garbage we try every year. That's not to say ownership isn't money-pocketing dbags, but their roster turnover strategy is actually pretty smart..

I suspect they will draw much better this year due to the stadium, but that will fall off drastically imo. The fanbase here is the #1 issue, no doubt imo.

I don't think this is comparable at all.

Orioles fans don't go anymore because the team is a joke.

Marlins fans don't go because there is no such thing as a Marlins fan.

As bad a dropoff as the Orioles have had, they've never sunk to Marlins level. And they've had absolutely nothing to cheer for over the past decade, while Marlins fans have.

Marlins fans simply suck. I have no doubt attendance will get a bump this year, but I don't expect it to be huge. If they can get back into the top 2/3 of the league and stay there for more than a single season, I'll admit I was wrong.

Bad blood in Scottsdale. Ubaldo hits Tulowitzki with a pitch. Benches clear. #drama

    Jordan Bastian ‏ @MLBastian
Back story: Ubaldo had some choice words for Rockies organization early in spring; Tulo had some choice word for Ubaldo in print recently.

    Jordan Bastian ‏ @MLBastian
Ubaldo hit Tulo on the back, dropped glove & dared Tulo to charge him. Benches cleared shortly thereafter.

  • Braves with a move today that I thought was kind of interesting. Acquired Juan Francisco from the Reds for a pitching prospect. He was out of options, so the Reds couldn't send him down without risking losing him. Francisco will fill in for Chipper to start the season.

Yeah, the video pretty much proves that it was 100% intentional, imo. Its going to be so awesome when someone finally snaps and charges the mound with a bat and takes them out at the knees. Nyjer Morgan, I believe in you

I saw the other day Angels were playing KC and hit 3-4 consecutive HR's. Next guy up gets plunked, and the ump didn't even toss the pitcher. I thought for sure Scosia was going to kill the guy but all he did was yell at him from the dugout.

They will never get rid of Sterling, and I hope they don't.

He is terrible, but entertaining. I love when Francesa and co. replay his calls from the night before.

    quincedawg

  • Its pretty ridiculous when the ex-player (like Leiter) is significantly more intelligent than the play-by-play guy. Singleton's OK, but too much of homer. Michael Kay is actually dumber than the average Yankee fan I think

    Flops

  • Kay has no redeeming qualities. At least Hawk Harrelson is unintentionally funny.
