Ha. You've wanted to post this for so long, you pussy. This is your "You all have tiny penii" post. Better start learning how to humblebrag so you can stick around here.

I do enjoy the irony of that post when he's doing the exact same thing for the other side. Yeah, it gets over the top here, but I've never ONCE seen a dook fan agree that they get the calls at least sometimes. Is it because they're blind, idiots, or dishonest?

Have you once, ever seen me complain about the refs here?

  • Meh. I don't think Duke got anything like the favoritism given to UNC this year. Except for Rivers - that ridiculous stiff-arm has got to go.

    Fwah Grah

  • In fairness there was a stretch of crap calls against NCSU in the semifinal game but that seemed like a game where the refs were making stuff up as they went along. Everything was fubar about the way that game was called.

What I WILL say is I don't like this trend where unc players seem to be taking duke-esque dives to draw charges. That's some garbage.

Lol, I've been around the various iterations of this board for a decade. If I made through smokefree and cincy / lanham, doubt you're gonna run me off now.

I miss smokefree daily. The other, not so much.

    Inbounds, IMO:

...besides, the ref has a bad angle so there's no way he'd be able to see Plumlee.

If by "trend" you mean, "for the last 40 years or more", then, yeah, it's a trend.

  • You guys lump Duke and UNC together as far as ref bias, yet I never see awesome videos here of calls favoring UNC. I can remember one horrible traveling call that went UNC's way in the 2005 NCAA game against Nova, but which was balanced by an equally horrible charge call against Ray Felton in that same game.

I'm really curious to see if anyone here can produce similar evidence like the Duke clips above. I'm pretty open minded and will admit it if you find something good.

I don't know if you've seen this call from the Duke UNC game earlier this year:

I don't have time to do it, but maybe someone can put together a video of Zeller's 23 free throws on senior night and the UNC game at UVA where the refs kept Mike Scott on the bench. Both games at the end of the season when the POY was being decided. Coincidence or a league effort to give the POY to a UNC player?

just kidding....sort of....well except that part about the 23 free throws....

I don't know if you've seen this call from the Duke UNC game earlier this year:

Anybody with the time and inclination to look at video can find at least three calls or no-calls for either team that look ridiculous on tape afterwards in anygame in the history of sports.

Bad calls happen. There are around 140 possessions in every game and there is at least one call or no call to be made in every one of them. Out of a couple hundred calls, refs are going to blow a bunch of them. That's the way it is - that's fucking sports.

I'm not saying Duke doesn't get calls. I'm saying that adults that spend their time reviewing Duke games just to find three things to complain about are worth laughing at.

If a player makes 55% of his shots he's a star. If a ref makes 5 bad decisions out of 200 you want to accuse him of cheating, accuse the ACC office (led by a UNC guy) of cheating, and have Obama create a special commission to investigate.

I've got news for you - refs aren't perfect. They miss calls and are swayed by things like crowds and momentum. If anyone benefits from their natural human error, it's the home team with the loud crowds, it's the better team, it's the more aggressive team, and it's the better coach.

If you're going to wish for the world to change - complaining about the refs isn't going to change it. That's like complaining about the 3pt line being too close when you get outshot from long range. Refs are human and will make a certain number of errors per game. If you want their mistakes to favor you, wish your team, players, and coach were better.

And LOL at the UNC fan.

The problem is when they make a push off call against one team and then seconds later don't call the same on the other, which from replays seem to be a far more obvious call.

OK, now you've expanded your view to include two calls that support your pre-existing bias that the refs are against whatever team you want to win. I suppose that's a start.

No clips available, but in a game in Tallahassee on January 6, 1999, the Heels beat FSU by a score of 72-54. The free throw advantage for UNC was 31-2.
