LSU vs #2 Bama (2)

  • OrangeTerrapin said...

LOL @ Erik Gee, who voted LSU #1.

"Unless Alabama absolutely dominates LSU and leaves no doubt that it is a superior football team, I will be voting for LSU," he said. "I am voting for the No. 1 team in the country for the 2011 season, not the result of one game. In the case of this rematch presented by the BCS, you have to consider the scope of the entire season, not the timing of one loss."

I have no idea what game he was watching last night.

Did LSU even make it into Alabama territory for the game?

Once, but that was late in the game on the second to last LSU drive.

    OrangeTerrapin

  • wow, that was awful. Picked up a free club level seat on the 50, so at least I didn't waste a ton of money on that crap.

    How did you manage that?

That is what happens when you have conference realignment that destroys longtime rivalries and teams are taken based on how many people reside in their state and not on how good their football program actually is.

sort of insane actually. Most people like watching compelling match ups and good football.

Not Rutgers v Missouri because of the large markets in their areas.

I think this year happened to be just a down year with there being a clear top 2 that also happened to be in the same division. There wasn't that much change this year between the conferences.

That being said, you're right that expanded conferences is going to take away a lot of the best aspects of CFB.

right place at the right time. walking around with my "I need a miracle" sign and got a few laughs and a few people sympathized with me, and one nice lady told me what I needed is a spanking and she spanked me. Was standing on one end for a while with no luck (didn't anticipate getting in), walked around the other side of the stadium and a guy asked if I wanted to go in, so he walked in with both tickets, I was behind him, and he left this old lady Bama fan outside. Said he was about to take her in (she wasn't hot, more of a grandmotherly figure) but he was hoping to see an LSU fan with their finger in the air. I just happened to be the first one to walk in front of him when he was looking to get rid of it. Most people looking for tickets were a little further out, where I was about to go. Pretty amazing.

What was the street price for tickets? And what were you willing to pay?

99% of the tickets on the street were counterfeit. Most of the time you couldnt even tell, as people converted their tickets to etickets and the barcodes became voided.

Tickets on the street were still going for $1000 at kickoff, earlier in the day it was about $1200-$1300 for an upper level seat.

We scored 2 killer lower level seats in the French Quarter on Sunday night for $1k each.

If nearly all of the tickets were fake, how did you know yours wasn't? That's a pretty cool story, swemm.

Bought them off older Bama boosters at the Monteleone (Bamas Alumni Club hotel). Checked the watermark on the back of the ticket with a black light ($5 RadioShack) and took a picture of their drivers license.

Obviously they still could have been barcode-voided, but was comfortable with the transaction given who the sellers were.

Saw literally hundreds of people being turned away at the gates with tickets that were flat out fake or that had been voided. Guy in front of us at the entrance had just paid $900 for a single voided ticket (bought it from another fan who ostensibly was trying to pass the buck after being scammed himself)

Gotcha, I figured you must've known what you were doing to spend a couple thousand in such a counterfeit-heavy environment. That really sucks for those people who got scammed though. I'm curious if you don't mind indulging me, so for those who bought tickets through whatever the primary source is, they receive physical tickets but then have the option of switching to an e-ticket (thereby rendering the physical ticket worthless) and can then theoretically sell the worthless physical ticket to an unknowing person?

If you re-sell your tickets through the TicketMaster Exchange, all you need to do as a seller is enter the numbers on the barcode in to TicketMaster's website and the buyer is issued an e-ticket from TicketMaster with a new valid bar code.

The original ticket's barcode is voided and will not scan when you try to enter the game. I guarantee that a few people will get burned at the Ravens game (and any other TicketMaster event in the future)

Gotcha, glad it worked out for you. I guess the moral is if you buy physical tickets, be damn sure you trust the seller.

  • It seems like it would be an easy problem to correct for Ticketmaster. Just set something up on their website that you can go to and enter barcodes to see if they're still valid.

Kinda hard when you're on the street. Maybe if they set up kiosks outside the arena to authenticate tickets.

No real incentive for TicketMaster to do this as they want everyone to buy from them and pay the additional fees involved. No benefit to them for a street transaction.

Their position is pretty much "Told you so, should have bought them off our site"

like Herm, I saw nothing for cheaper than a grand. I wasn't really asking scalpers, didn't want to waste their time. I had been reading Tigerdroppings and saw the all the concern over fakes, and I really didn't have much money anyways, so because of that, I wasn't going to pay anything. Perfectly content to watch it at a bar, which was my plan.

I did buy a fake for Florida/Oklahoma game, and after trying to get it scanned, the ticket took it from me, I would hope they would do the same here (and everywhere with tickets that don't scan), so that no one could resell the tickets.

Seems like the incentive for them would be to lessen the amount of complaints they receive from people out hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Those cost money to handle, via toll-free number charges or whatever. Throwing up a quick web app where you type (or even scan) the barcode would be pretty simple.
