No. I remember the same countless times that Duke got screwed. I remember countless times MD got calls at home that could have gone either way or should have gone the other way. Gary worked refs to his advantage the same as any successful coach. I don't look for Duke to get calls. I simply acknowledge situational ref bias with regard to Duke has been inflated over the years.

To act as if it is simply ridiculous that Duke may actually get the benefit of officiating at home, moreso than is normal, based on the factors I mentioned before is just ridiculous homerism. The desire Duke fans have to believe everything good that ever happened to them was earned because Coach K is the most honorable, humble, decent forthright human being ever to walk the earth and his players are all the very definition of student athletes is unbelievable.

Duke doesn't get all the call, but they get at least their fair share and some of others.

    you're wasting your time man

I, OTOH, remember innumerable end-of-game and critical situations where Duke got hosed on a call or no-call.

This statement is funnier than the Coltsfan thread.

You're lying and please keep acting like you're unbiased while the rest of us can't control our raging, unfounded anti-Duke bias.

You do realize that the portion of my post that you quoted is an acknowledgement that, like all cbb fans, I end up suffering from confirmation bias to some degree as well, right? The difference, of course, is that I actually acknowledge and understand confirmation bias and how it could apply to refs and our college basketball experiences. You guys, OTOH, go for something between the SJW mock-but-don't-be-forced-to-refute-with-facts-that-with-which-you-disagree approach and your general scorched-earth-fuck-you policy.

As for the 'you're lying' -- about what, exactly? You think I don't remember Duke getting royally fucked by the refs? Or did you mean something else?

No team can attack the rim late with a lead against Duke because if you do you will inevitably be called for an offensive foul!! Saying NC State didn't attack the basket is like saying they didn't punch themselves in the nuts.

Refs have always assumed with Duke that their players are "smarter" than the opposition and that every Duke position is the smarter more disciplined one etc.

If I am coaching a team with a lead at Cameron the last thing I would ever tell them to do was attack the basket. You are just asking for a charge call on every single play. All you can do is take jumpers and hope they go in.

Curious, how many offensive fouls was NCSU charged with in this game? Duke?

Or, is your hypothesis that the lack of charge calls on NCSU demonstrates* overwhelming ref bias?

*NCSU obviously changed their style and didn't commit charges because they assumed refs would be unfair = evidence of ref bias

I wonder what this board would look like if Maryland had lost in the same way Duke did to 2002 Indiana and 2004 UConn.

You'd talk about the non-foul against Boozer like the Kenny Dennard non-call (42 years later!) and you'd talk about Williams and Randolph's fifth fouls like they were Lonny's fifth foul (a legitimate WTF call, imo).

Shit happens to everyone, and everyone's fans think they got screwed.

FTR, I'm not arguing Duke does or doesn't get the hookup. I can't objectively judge that because I'm an extremely biased observer. I am however arguing that everyone else in this thread are also biased observers.

Obviously, we're all biased but your holier-than-thou condescension about how you understand things our tiny brains can't and whiny insistence that "Dook gets screwed" too make you look like an insecure asshole.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

Like this board's predecessor was in 2001 after the hosing at the final four, which everyone in the country recognized BUT YOU DOOKIES...

If it's not Carolina it's Dook, year in and year out and this year is typical - if you ain't from Durham or Chapel Hill, it don't matter how good you are because the boys in blue are better and the game will be called that way every time, whether your team plays better or not.

What complete self-serving, confirmation bias crap.

That's right, it works both ways. The amazing thing is that the ENTIRE NATIONAL college basketball fanbase sees the same shit we do the same way, but WE'RE the ones who are wrong.

I rewatched that game a couple of years ago. That must have started my "ACC hates us" theory. It was truly incredible, most notably the play referenced above.
