There are a bunch of reasons why its difficult to rank players across different eras, but the one that IMO makes it most difficult is rule changes. Montana was almost playing a different sport than Brady. Getting hit without calls extending drives, having receivers get grabbed and held 15 yards downfield and still getting them the ball etc. Thats the main reason current guys are always going to win the raw stats argument. I'm old enough to have watched both guys play in their prime. I think Montana was better, but Brady is certainly up there as one of the all time greats....

I'm not sure how one can compare these old time guys like Unitas and Otto with more recent QB's. They certainly don't deserve to be that high.
Neither does Staubach and Anderson was likely some sort of inside joke.

Yeah why do people just automatically put Brady in front of Manning? Manning has better OVERALL stats minus SBs. It seems pretty obvious after week one that Manning has been playing with doo-doo but still succeeding every year. He makes Div 2 WR into studs(see Garcon). If Belichek is the genius that everybody says he is then Id be more inclined to say Manning is the better QB.

Cassell is a MUCH better replacement being in that system for years than a just unretired Kerry Collins. Please dont try to compare the situations.

Yep, the battle for that top spot is clearly Manning vs Brady. I'm always going back and forth, but right now I'm in the Brady camp.

Elway literally has no argument over Favre. Elway's passer rating is about the same Byron Leftwich and Elvis Grbac. He didn't win shit until he got bailed out by the rest of his team. Plus he threw up 3.5 stinkers in the SB.

Those Broncos teams Elway was on in the 80's were horrible. It took a herculean effort for him to just about single handedly get the Broncos to those Super Bowls. They were vastly outmatched in each one of those games.
Meanwhile, I'm not sure there has ever been a QB who gave away more playoff games than Favre.

Elway played in a crap conference in the 80's. That is why he got exposed in the SB. For all the crap Favre gets for throwing playoff games away, he has a better postseason passer rating than Brady, Roethlisberger, and Elway who all have clutch reps.
