In this thread we guess what the Penn St sanctions will be.....

  • So ESPN is reporting that a source says it won't be the death penalty but "may be worse".

    What's worse than the death penalty?

    "But Penn State will not receive the so-called "death penalty" that would have suspended the program for at least one year, the source said.

    The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable, the source said."

  • Worse then death penalty would have to result in 3 win seasons for a decade. In other words gotta be at least 5 year bowl ban and loss of 20 scholarships per year

    NJTerpfan1

  • I'm going to go more severe than any of you are predicting. I think the NCAA is so appalled, they almost want to dare PSU to appeal:

    - 5 year bowl ban;
    - 3 year television ban (including conference games to the extent this can be enforced with the Big 10 network tie-in);
    - Immediate loss of 10 scholarships for 2012 season, followed by loss of 20 scholarships for next three years;
    - Immediate ability of players to transfer without losing a year of eligibility;
    - Show cause for anybody who wants to hire the ghost of Joe Paterno

    Watch 'worse than the death penalty' be a bunch of scholly reductions, a few years of bowl ban and the kicker...having to give back $xx million, or at least donate it to the child protection cause, to which those creepy alums will just empty their pockets to offset it. Last fundraising cycle was the second best year they've ever had. Those fuckers probably think they should do this more ofter, as it's good for the bottom line.

  • 3 year bowl ban
    scholarship reductions for 5 years
    player transfer without penalty this season
    vacating of wins from '98 through '11

    Not nearly harsh enough, imo.

  • Because its the NCAA I won't even hazard a guess. What is certain however whatever is handed down is not harsh enough for what happened at that school and its absurd fan-base.

  • Think not allowing non-conference games could be in the picture?

    theaman

  • I think no ooc games is a very Strong possibility.

    That would be a nice addition, along with having to compensate those non-con schools for lost revenue for 2012.

    And they have to play the Terps at Byrd for the next 10 years. Looks like the decommiting has begun, Webb to UNC.

    Could we please have one NCAA thread without this joke? Hgoodman jokes about Will Bowers were still funny when this joke jumped the shark.

    Really strong choice there Webb.

  • After they vacate a bunch of wins, Florida State should be required to hold a ceremony in Beaver Stadium honoring Bobby Bowden's win record.

    Lol no. That's like saying Harry Statham has the basketball wins record.

  • Making them play either no home games or home games behind closed doors would be fun, but I'm not sure what it would accomplish.

    Put me down for a hard slap on the wrist: 10 scholarships for 5 years, 2-year bowl ban, vacated wins, some fine to charity (which, as far as I can remember, would be "unprecedented," but I highly doubt whatever media hack started this meme knows what the word means) but no TV ban. They'll win no fewer than 6 games in a season the entire time, and be back to winning 8-10 by the end of the penalties. Which is great, because I don't equate losing football games to justice for covering up child rape.

  • rumors from the main board, no schollies in 2013 is basically the death penalty is it not? I doubt this is legit info but still crazy to see all the stuff floating around

    Bowl ban until 2015

    No scholarships for 2013

    Current roster allowed to transfer without penalty

    Clearing House to facilitate all transfers

    Transferring players will not count against scholarship numbers of acquiring teams

    Reduction off scholarships by 8 for 5 years beginning 2014

    Beginning of 2014 option to field team in Division 1AA or secondary sub division

    Records going back to 1998 will be vacated

    2 year tv ban
    loss of 10 ships a year for 3 years.

    Yeah pretty much, thats the lastest rumor i found on penn state board,. some of the state fans. were even talking about leaving the ncaa. or going to Div 1 AA for 2 years, then coming back in 2014.

    Yeah, that's not happening.

  • They have to play at Pitt.

    Hey JMU6375

  • I'm hopeful after reading the CNN article calling it "unprecedented", but I'm still preparing to be dissapointed.

    terps687

  • This wasn't just a really bad coach, this was institutional. NCAA hates institutional lack of control. Whatever happen, it's gonna hurt.

    SATerp

  • Rumor floating on the PSU board from a guy who is pretty well connected that it would be loss of Nike sponsorship, 5 year bowl ban + total scholarship loss for 5 years.

    If true, that is indeed worse than a death penalty. They won't even be able to start the rebuilding process from scratch until year 6. That's a program nuke.
