So let's say you moved to the US from England as a young child and started playing basketball. You grow up identifying yourself as an American, marry an American, become a citizen and started balling. You have the option for playing for Team USA or Great Britain in the Olympics, which would you choose?
Besides maybe Cacau, the rest of Germany's players consider themselves to be Germans. They never knew anything else and they didn't become Germans just so that they could play for the German team. I do think that if you played for one national team growing up, you shouldn't be able to switch but to bar immigrants from assimilating to their adoptive countries is just ignorant.
And let me get this straight, your calling them ze nazis for not limiting their National team pool to blond haired, blue eyed players? Wtf is wrong with you. Germany has become a cultural melting pot and as such, they're citizens have taken on a much more diverse background.

I'd argue Podolski does fit with the squad. He has the experience in big competitions and he's always produced for Germany. Not only that, but he just had a pretty damn good season for Cologne. Plus, Gotze is just now coming back from a long term injury. I'd be really surprised if Podolski doesn't start because he is kind of like Klose. He's always average to nothing special for his club, but when he puts on a German kit he is unstoppable.

Oh i get the reference. It's just tired. And as someone who holds both German and US passports, it straight pisses me off that the term is used to reference present day Germans. It's about as relevant as coltsfan calling you a racist ass slave trader.
And way to address any of the points.
Oh, and the US team has 5 Germans on the team, and at least 10 other players who were either born in other countries or have parents who moved here.

Goetze is back. He's also ridiculously good.
I agree that if Podolski gets the nod it would be based on his National Team experience. I still think it's a mistake.
This board seems to think that Gomez needs unbelievable service. Goetze is your man for that (as is Reus for that matter).

Ozil is the clear #10 for Germany - I think incorporating a guy like Goetze (and Reus to a certain extent) would lead to having too many cooks in the kitchen. And you still need that line of three to track back, since Germany's game largely hinges on the counter-attack.
When you have an embarrassment of riches like Germany does, it's more about putting the pieces of the puzzle together, not necessarily maximizing your talent. Podolski fills the same role that Kuyt does for Holland - doesn't need the ball to be effective or close into other areas of the field.

He'll fit with Ozil the same way they fit in the 2010 WC when they were playing lights out and only lost to Spain in the semis. He has WC and Euro experience and just had a great season. The other players are more familiar with him. I don't know how he isn't an almost perfect fit for this team.

england's so fuckin dumb, and i actually like them.
they literally have no chance of winning this tournament so why not just go with a youth movement? the gerrard/lampard generation has gotten you absolutely nowhere anyway, why keep torturing yourself?
keep some of the mid 20's guys and fill out the squad with a bunch of 19-22 year olds. why the hell not...
hart/walker/richards/smalling/jones/cahill/gibbs/bertrand/walcott/AO-C/johnson/cleverley/rodwell/young/rooney/welbeck/sturridge
need a couple more central mids. not sure who they have coming up. henderson, mabey? ross barkley? tell wenger to fuck himself and take wilshere??
this is how i'd go about it. they'd probably finish dead last, but at least they'd have a built in excuse(apart from having hodgson as manager)---youth, and that youth would have some good major tournament experience to build on. win.
