I just ordered one of these so that's who i'll be pulling for.

I have a couple Greek friends so i'll pull for them as well.

LOVE THOSE JERSEYS- one of the main reasons I'm pulling for the Dutch

Ethnicity wise, I should be rooting for the Germans. But since there was this thing called the Holocaust, where they murdered 1/3 of my family, instead it will be ABG- Anybody but Germany

  • The group of death is ridiculous. Netherlands/Germany/Portugal/Denmark

You haven't received your official apology from the German Soccer Team?

For Denmark and Portugal it will be death.

  • Very excited about this. I'm going to be in northern Europe on a cruise while the knockout rounds are going on. If Denmark comes in second and then wins their first knockout game, they'll be playing on June 27th and I'll be in Denmark on that day. If Germany wins their group and then wins their first knockout game, they'll be playing on June 28th and I'll be in Germany that day. The first one is not very likely, but the second one is. So that's what I'm rooting for. I'd love to be in a sports bar on those days rooting for those team with the people in their country. Unfortunately we have no stops in Poland (or Ukraine) so I won't be able to go to any games live.

  • Very, very excited. I'll be at several of the matches in both Poland and Ukraine and I'm really stoked for what should be tremendous crowds and atmospheres for the eastern teams. I'd love to see one win the whole thing, but that would be a monumental upset (Russia is the most talented, but a disaster - Croatia is a mess defensively - Poland and Ukraine just aren't very good, etc).

I'll root for an upset, too, but it'll be near impossible. The top teams, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, are just too good.

    Vad,
Where will you be? I'll be staying with a friend in Krakow and then heading to Liew (sp?) and Warsaw for games, probably June 10th - 20th...

  • For all those rooting for Germany, I am pretty sure Ozil is going to Pwn VERY hard during these Euros.

  • Not pulling for anyone in particular, but really excited about the tournament. Outside of the favorites (Spain, Netherlands, Germany) I like Croatia a lot. Think they will get out of the group in 2nd ahead of Italy and have a very winnable game against likely England in the next round.

Germany is going to be nasty for the foreseeable future. Their young talent is staggering.

I'm rooting for Ireland and Germany but really I just want the same thing out of this tournament that I do for every international tournament and that is for England to bomb out in spectacular fashion.

Hating England is second only to hating Mexico.

  • I'll root against England UNLESS they lure Scholes out of retirement. Would love to see that guy boss the Euros.

I'll probably just day trip it from Vienna to Krakow and Lviv (get ready for confusion on this one, it's Lviv in Ukrainian and Lwow - pronounced Lvov - in Polish, and both have had the city off and on through history) and stay with people overnight, but I'm also going to make a longer multi-day trip to Kyiv around the finals.

Most of us follow their league very closely, and England's national team has a lot of players that are easy to dislike.

Their media is obnoxious, as are their fans.Politics has nothing to do with it.

Not to mention how arrogant they are about soccer, namely the FA.

because their meltdowns are hilarious. They think they have a birthright to be great at soccer and when they don't win a tournament there's a national inquisition.

Watching Poland in Poland is going to be awesome - but damn, that's not a great list of cities to be in.

Wroclaw, Krakow and Lviv are BY FAR the 3 best cities hosting matches. It's not even close. All 3 are older medieval cities that have very little taint of Soviet occupation. They simply crush every other city where matches are going to be played.

Gdansk, Kharkiv and Warsaw are the 3 worst cities hosting matches.

You're going to see 7 matches, and only 1 of them is going to be in one of the best locations. Yikes.

    vadimivich

  • Here's how I'd rate the host cities:

    #1 - Krakow
    #2 - Lviv
    #3 - Wroclaw

HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE GAP

    #4 - Kyiv

HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE GAP

#5 - Donetsk (just because the stadium crushes)
    #6 - Warsaw
    #7 - Gdansk
    #8 - Kharkiv

Throw the bottom 4 in a hat and try to avoid all of them, if you can.

Krakow is not a host city, did you mean Poznan? I hope so anyway.

Gdansk looks like it will be the most fun, due to its location right near the beach resorts. Plan on hanging out with some friends in Sopot on the eve of the Ireland/Spain match.

All of the cities Im visiting should have a great atmosphere, if only for the tremendous crowds for the Poland and Ireland matches.

There are upwards of 40k Irish fans heading over, and tickets for all of their group matches are going for crazy money.

Sopot in Gdansk is beautiful. Also one of the richer parts. Wroclaw above Krakow as a party city. The change in Wroclaw is crazy. The group A is going to be fun with Russia Poland and the Czechs. Fun before fights after games.
