As a giant Caps fan, I take absolutely no satisfaction out of this. Crosby was a whiny d-bag when he first entered the league (and still whines too much - witness his bitching about not getting a penalty shot call during the Winter Classic), but he has improved and rounded his game through hard work to become the best player in hockey, bar none. As a Caps fan I root for him to fail, but he has earned my respect by working his ass off to make massive improvements in his skating, strength, faceoffs, and shooting over the last couple of seasons.
No matter what Pens fans said, Crosby was not the best player in hockey his first couple of seasons - Ovie was. But in the 12 months prior to his injury, Crosby had clearly passed him. My hope was always that Ovie would get charged up by that and amp his own game up in the same fashion.
It seems as though Ovie _is_ busting his hump this summer, horrendous "he's fat" memes aside. But I believe that Ovie vs. Crosby is good for hockey and ultimately good for both players and their teams.
