1st time in 15 yrs orioles fans were louder than yankee fans at camden yards. thats how electric it was tonight.
Yup, and people were joking in the thread that there weren't even that many posts because we were all at the game.
The R&RII "Hey, you suck" at OPACY tonight put me on full blast mega tilt. Not because it wasn't awesome. It was. But because that should be every Maryland football and basketball game ever played. I just want to go punch Debby Yow in her fat face.
Can someone explain to me why if the base word is ATTITUDE why it's NATITUDE and not NATTITUDE. Another failure of DC school system? Poor Lerners in DC?
The team lost the opportunity for at&t to sponsor Nat&titude Night at the park
Players I'm driving the bandwagon for: Kevin Gregg
This X 1000. I haven't had that much fun at a sporting event in forever. I would say that was an even better atmosphere than the Ravens/Texans playoff game last year.
If that happened, it goes back longer than 15 years. Yankees fans ran Oriole Park in the mid 90s even when the Orioles were good.
Wait, they do the wave at every game? Jesus. I thought it was just a fluke at the game I was at. Man, the Wallflowers were great after that game.
i know you're just baiting and i'll take it ... but yeah last night was loud, but why isn't that place like that more often?
they almost had 47,000 people there last night ... in the 4-game series with the white sox, the o's drew a total of 47,000. adam jones even said what the hell is up with that?
o's are having a great year, more people should show up like last night.
No. They didn't.
People like to overrate how many opposing fans are in the stadium. Just because you see a lot doesn't mean there are more than O's fans. I've been to several games in the 2000s when the O's are playing the Yankees or Sox, and there are very rarely MORE opposing fans than O's fans. Back when the Orioles were good in the 90s it was 75% O's fans at worst. Yeah, there were still a buttload of Yanks fans, but they weren't even close to filling half the stadium.
Read what I was replying to, I'm talking about noise.
It's all about season tickets. Right now the O's don't have a lot of season tickets sold because of 15 years of crap. So while a lot of O's fans are going to games, they're going on a game by game basis. So when you're picking and choosing the games to go to, you're not going to choose a mid-week game (one of them mid-day), against a non-division opponent, on the the first week school is back in session, with no promotional events going on. Not when the Yankees are coming to town soon, on a weekend, with Cal Ripken night, and cheap tickets to Tampa Bay games the following week.
I would bet most of the fans at the White Sox games were season ticket holders. After this year, season ticket sales should start going up, and you'll likely see more people at the less desireable games than in years past.
Not excusing the attendance during the White Sox series, but the Baltimore grand prix did play a role.
Go away, KA!
Well that's because they're obnoxious attention whores, not because they were actually taking over our stadium.
The ugly bitch behind me yesterday was louder than anyone around, but she just looked like a fool trying to draw attention to herself rather than actually being some ardent supporter of her team.
Not like any of this discussion matters, but when a vocal minority is out-cheering your home crowd that sounds like dominance to me. And it wasn't just the Yankees.
true, good point
Btw, Memorial Stadium big game atmosphere> Camden Yards big game atmosphere.
classlessthug: I have too much on my plate to worry about the fact that my junk intimidates some needle D undergrad.
i know and i know schools were open and stuff ... the other night nats only had 17,000 something there and that was first day of virginia schools in session. (we haven't had anything less than 20,000 since may when nats faced padres)
i just know AJ wasn't happy and took to twitter about his thoughts. last night he thanked the fans like a million times though.
players feed off the crowd, especially teams like the nats/o's who haven't been in this position.
Last night was a Memorial Stadium style crowd.
Nice. Memorial Sradium was a shit hole, in a nice way.
Has there ever been an old person who hasn't said that [stadium they grew up watching games in] isn't better than [new stadium]?
Well to be fair to the DC crowd it would be very hard to have a worse stadium experience than either FedEx Field or Nationals Stadium so yeah.
But of course nostalgia plays a role in all of our perceptions.
I never said it was better, in fact I said the opposite. Atmosphere, big game wise though, no one who's been to both would argue with what I've said. It was just a different climate. Memorial stadium had a much rowdier, blue-collar, Wild Bill Hagy vibe to it.
