A bunch of talk on Twitter about a big deal for Shaka. Can't link from my phone.
Don't think it is gonna happen - doesn't make much sense IMO when he can do much better than a middling B1G program
Believability level? Probably somewhere from laughable to so you're telling me there's a chance?
Well usually when a guy wants an extension at his current job, the first thing he does is get interest from another school. In this case, the first thing he did was act like he was going to restructure his current contract....so maybe he is leveraging money out of Minnesota for a job he wants? I think the job makes sense for him.
Well that would suck
I don't think he will leave VCU. My buddy works in their AD and says he loves VCU and believes he can win big there/does not think Minnesota is a good job, even with the old VCU AD there.
VCU's former AD is at Minnesota, no? That makes it plausible in my opinion. He's a midwestern guy, a boss he's comfortable with and expectations that won't be ridiculous like UCLA.
What if I told you there was a man who had a job for life, was king of a town and loved by all, and left it for some frozen lakes?
30 for 30: The Shaka Smart Story
(btw there's no chance this happens)
He wants to win big at VCU. They have good support, building a new basketball practice facility, and with the way conference realignment is going, why not wait around and see where they end up. I am sure there are some jobs he would want to take, but no reason to change anything right now.
I don't think he'll leave for Minnesota, he's probably waiting for an elite job(in the midwest or east coast) to open up. I mean, the 2 previous VCU coaches who left for a high D-1 position, Jeff Capel and Anthony Grant, have had average results at best. Shaka Smart could get more from Minnesota, but he'll probably end up getting fired from there in 4 years after a couple NIT appearances and 1-and-done NCAA tourney runs.
Once Shaka Smart rejected Illinois last year, it was probably apparent that he wasn't going to take just any high D-1 job. S.Smart has shown himself to be a great recruiter, Illinois produces elite high school talent every year, it probably wouldn't have taken long for him to get a lot of the 5-star, 'Can't Miss' types to stay home and attend Illinois. I believe he is from Illinois too.
I can't believe they fired Uncle Tubby.
who the fuck does Minnesota think they are? NCST?
2 bad fires in my opinion, Tubby and Howland.
I hope Smart does not leave VCU, but that is big $$$.
Madison. I've always thought there was a chance he was waiting for Bo to retire. Minnesota probably closes that book though.
Basically I think both he and Brad Stephens are both waiting for Duke to open up and then they'll fight to the death for it.
I don't see Shaka as a fit for Duke, from either side. Carolina, yes. Duke, no. But that's just me.
Archie Miller to Minnesota (or at least that is the discussion on local sports talk radio).
