Jozy's latest. Pretty nasty.
AZ Alkmaar failed to take advantage of Jozy Altidore's fourth goal in four games and lost 3-2 at PSV Eindhoven.
Altidore's brilliant 25-yard blast, reminiscent of his strike against. Guadeloupe during last summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup, pulled AZ even with PSV in the 24th minute. Ten minutes later, the visitors were in front thanks to a goal from Roy Beerens. But it didn't last.
PSV leveled the score at 2-2 with 13 minutes remaining, after Altidore had been substituted, then snatched the game-winner deep into stoppage time at Philips Stadion.
It was the third consecutive Dutch Eredivisie game in which AZ (18-6-7) has blown a lead.
Those dropped points have proven costly and they now trail first-place Ajax Amsterdam (which has a game in hand) by three points. Meanwhile, Feyenoord has moved into a tie for second with three more clubs each trailing in third by a single point.
Whether AZ finishes in first or sixth, it will be a season to remember for Altidore, 22, who scored only six goals during his first three years in Europe. The New Jersey native signed with AZ last summer and has scored a career-high 18 times since, with 14 of those goals coming in league play. He is the seventh leading marksman in the Eredivise.

The new unis have grown on me.
The away ones are pretty cool. The home ones I could take or leave. But when you have to change your unis every two years, there are going to be some hits and misses. Just as long as our WC unis are badass, I'm cool.
Didn't like them at first glance but they are growing on me. What do the aways look like?
Do not like.
I like the home better than the away, but neither is terrible. I hated the sash on the last round of jerseys so at least that is gone now.
look closer...its still there
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
Potts not eligible for USA. The left back problem continues.
Adam Henley is possible...his decision. Tab Ramos is optimistic for him as right back.

I meant on the home jersey. At least it's gone from one of them
There's a sash on both jerseys, however much they try to fade it I'm still gonna see it
i like them
They're more distinctive and more "American" than we've had the last few cycles, but I really wish we'd pick a look and stick with it. The USMNT needs a brand, an identity people worldwide will recognize. But I realize that probably won't happen.
U.S. soccer = Maryland football
Nice interview with Holden.
Dan Walker talks to Boltons chances of avoiding relegation, and Fabrice Muamba.
Both are longshots. Henley more likely since nobody wants to be stuck playing for Wales.
Oh damn, I didn't notice that initially on the homes. Ugh. Thanks for pointing it out, it's like the red dot on the cashmere sweater now
i had to
Andrei agenda alert...
The rivalry between the US and Russia will have another twist this year. The Russian and American national football teams will reportedly come head-to-head in a friendly game.
The President of the Russian Football Union Sergey Fursenko made the statement on Thursday, adding that “the match will take place where it will be warmer in November,” apparently suggesting that it will be held in America.
Russia are currently 11th in the FIFA ranking compared to Team USA’s 29th. The teams’ head-to-head history proves the statistics – the Russians won two of their four previous games with two draws and no losses.
Quite symbolically the friendly will be played in the midst of the US presidential campaign as the game is expected to kick off on November 14, 2012.
Four more friendlies are on for Russia this year. On May 25, Dick Advocaat’s charges will take on South American champs Uruguay in Moscow. Four days after they will test Lithuania in Bern, while on June 1, they will have the final rehearsal ahead of Euro 2012 against Italy. Finally, Didier Drogba and Co are expected in Moscow on August 15.
Late to the party, but hate the unis. Just hideous. Loved the ones we had for the last WC.
Anyone tell me what's up with changing every two years? It would appear to me that most countries never really change.
They all change every two years. And all for the same reasons.
If anyone is interested, District Sports is doing a bus trip from downtown out to FedEx for the USA/Brazil match in May. $20 for a roundtrip bus from a bar in DC (TBD departure location) to the game and back (drop-off coming back is U Street Metro, 13th and U), plus all you can drink on the bus. Essentially a 90 min open bar and transportation to FedEx for $20. Here's the link: http://dsfedexbus.eventbrite.com/
Considering how much of a pain it is to get to FedEx on a weeknight driving or via public transportation, not a bad deal.
We'll be tailgating btw, and whoever wants to join up we can make that work.
And jburd can bring my silly United shirt too! lol
This needs to be noted. Dempsey 4th in voting for the FWA POY award. Behind Van Persie, Rooney and Scholes.
That's nothing short of amazing.
SIAP -The Brazil WC match schedule is out. They wont be basing teams around a certain city, like in past World Cups. Every team is going to have to travel in the knockout rounds, some much more than others.
Lol at whoever draws A2, Opening match vs Brazil in Sao Paulo, then 2466 miles to Manuas, then 3500 miles to Recife.
The A3 team got off relatively easy in regards to travel, with all 3 of their games fairly close (Fortaleeza/Recife/Natal)
