Is it true that the group stages will have games at each end of the country instead of staying localized? That would be a bummer for travel.
Also just for clarification, in South Africa you could drive between a lot of the places....
Brazil, not so much, you'll need to fly locally in the country. It's a huge place.
Yes - that was very true for the US matches, especially. All 3 sites were very close. Some of the other teams had matches that were very spread out, though.
I stayed on through the end, and it was definitely not drivable to get to Port Elizabeth and Capetown from JBurg.
Made the drive from Rustenburg to Durban once, and that was a friggin haul. Next time just sucked it up and flew.
The big advantage of going with AO, is inter Brazil travel is included in the package. You may have group matches that are upto 2800 miles apart.
Jozy vs Sacha today in the Europa league. Jozy is on the bench, but I'm counting this as a win for Americans everywhere.
U.S. Under-23 men's national team head coach Caleb Porter has announced a 24-man roster that will take part in a February camp leading into a friendly with Mexico's U-23 team.
Here is the full roster:
Goalkeepers: Bill Hamid, Sean Johnson
Defenders: Greg Garza, Perry Kitchen, Alfredo Morales, Ike Opara, Kofi Sarkodie, Zarek Valentin, Jorge Villafana
Midfielders: Joe Corona, Mix Diskerud, Dilly Duka, Jared Jeffrey, Amobi Okugo, Michael Stephens
Forwards: Freddy Adu, Juan Agudelo, Terrence Boyd, Teal Bunbury, Joe Gyau, Jack McInerneny, Brek Shea, Tony Taylor
This is just about the roster we'll see in qualifying in March as well.
Nice roster. I like.
The back is scary as shit, but some serious midfield and attack options.
Not very many good old fashioned white boys anymore are there?
I like it.
Old fashioned white boys are fine...as long as they're from Germany!
The good news: Robbie Rogers finally got into a match for Leeds today as a second half sub.
The bad news: After 11 minutes, he was stretchered off after clanging heads with an opposing player.
Ream played 90 at CB for Bolton today in a 2-0 shutout.
Findley scored for Forest yesterday, and Diskerud debuted for Ghent.
Something tells me that Ream, despite what we say for MNT over the past year, is going to carve out a nice career in the Premier League. I'd be surprised if he isn't the favorite to start alongside Onyewu in 2014.
Every time I see Goodson play, he plays well.
Dolo didn't play today because of a calf injury, Gooch left his game today in the 27th due to a knock as well. Maybe we'll see the F. Johnson/Chandler LB/RB combo in Italy?
I put my deposit down this weekend for the AO Brazil trip. Anyone else commit to it?
goddamnit i want to
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
I've got a trip to Vegas for March Madness. I'm putting all my eggs in the Mich St to the Final 4 basket. If that works out (it better) then I'm in.
2nd plane is sold out now. Waitilist opened for a 3rd.
Is there a deadline for the deposit?
Yup, both my girlfriend and I. The AODC contingent is HUGE (40+ on the first plane alone), so we're hoping to have the second plane leave from DC instead of Houston and be the "East Coast plane".
Gooch out two months with a knee injury.
This would be amazing. It would save quite a bit of money getting to Houston and back. I knew some of the AODC contingent was going, didn't realize it was that many though.
I'm working on getting a couple others to commit, hopefully there are enough in the end to get either the second or third planes to depart from DC.
We're the largest AO chapter, so the sheer numbers are in our favor.
If you do let me know, I may be interested in hopping on that waitlist
