Yeah back post run + tap in < Freddy ball IMO.
No doubt lando's speed and ball were excellent too.

No one said we don't need Lando because of Zusi, though there may have been a false hope that he could contribute significantly in CONCACAF.
And Freddy did play last year and was our best player in Olympic qualifiers.
Facepalm. I'll never get it. It's like people would rather us play a toothless attack with hard working donkeys but keep their "Freddy Adu sucks" opinion intact. He's not the fucking messiah, but he creates goals. He's a gimmick, but one that's nice to have in your arsenal. Nobody (with a brain) thinks he's better than Clint or Landon or whatever, but fuck yes I'd rather have him on the left over Eddie or whatever out of position, right-footed tool we put over there.
FWIW, Benny played 12 games last year for the Revs, Freddy played in 28 (with 8 goals, btw).
I'd rather we used Freddy off the bench. I don't trust his conditioning. Of course, after yesterday I don't trust Michael Bradley's either.
I don't think he's a starter either. But I want him on the bench, always. In certain situations he may be a viable option, as it's frustrating to see guys out of position over on the left if Demps is going to be at striker long term, Shea hurt, etc. Hell, bring back DMB at this point.

3 goals from the run of play the entire season and that's what we're trying to say the national team NEEDS?
Also, color me unimpressed with cherry picking Open Cup stats against USL teams (2 of which were also penalties).
If he shows well for whoever he plays for next, I have no problem with him being named to a roster. I just think it's foolish to always go back to "well, he made some fancy dribbles 5 years ago!" And guess what the situation was in 2011 when he came in and helped the team... HE HAD ACTUALLY BEEN PLAYING WELL FOR A CLUB TEAM LEADING INTO THAT SUMMER
It's more like we shouldn't trust Jurgen's training. Would anyone be shocked if they were told that he had the team doing only hard cardio during their camp?
It's also why I'm really scared of what looks to be another "5 game tournament" this summer, with the last 3 being qualifiers. You just know he won't use the bench at all for Belgium and Germany because of personal hubris.
The Benny hate hurts, but I've come to realize he's basically my Freddy Adu
I'm not sure I buy your view of JK. It's hard for me to tell who's in form and who isn't. A lot of our players are low profile.
JK's philosophy that players should be playing for their club teams seems aligned with yours.
We need to stop with the German imports and start going after some African kids.
I didn't see the breakdown of PKs, etc. Blame Wiki.
OK, all about current club form then. Well, maybe Brad Evans is your kinda guy. I don't know.
Freddy and Benny are in the same boat for me. Yes, they possess skills that this team could use but they aren't exactly great at actually executing those skills consistently. I want Freddy Adu to be good, I think we all do but at some point he's just a small, slow midfielder who shows no desire to track back defensively and while some of the skills he has are needed for the USMNT, I'd prefer to have a better overall player on the roster. Is that Brad Evans? Unlikely but I'm not in charge of selecting the roster. I'd love for Freddy to be great for club and country though, it suits me both ways.
I think the real issue is that we keep trying to push the three CDM formation because our best midfielders all play the same position and we try to get them all on the field. JK wants to play this visually enticing style which is admirable, but when you have that many players clogging the middle you're not going to play beautiful soccer. The real issue is (and has been) that we completely lack players who can provide width. I'd love to see Brek Shea become one of those guys, but to end the game we had fucking Sacha Kljestan and Graham Zusi as our wide players. That's just horrific.
I agree that Freddy and Benny are in the same boat, but last time I checked, Freddy was our best player among Clint, MB, and Landon in the Gold Cup Final (not to mention the best player in U-23), and Benny was terrific as a super-sub in the World Cup. That doesn't mean nothing from a low sample size - those were competitive matches that gave us an idea of what these guys have to offer when player amongst our best players. Is it a cop-out to say that they play their best when with our best guys? Maybe, since it applies to a lot of guys. But we know their best is something that isn't offered by any of the guys Klinsmann is trotting out - it's not the redundancy of three d-mids. As long as we have creative players who can be at their best with our A-team, who cares what they do with club. It's incredible that Freddy and Jozy have barely played together with the MNT considering what they used to do together at the youth level and the fact that that is exactly what Jozy needs to be our goalscorer.

BTW, somewhat related, apparently Holden is expected to be back in the lineup for Bolton in the next few weeks. If he can get back into form before the summer, that could greatly affect this discussion.
i get the love for freddy and even benny, but am i the only member of the mixx mafia? i don't get why he seems to get no looks from klinsy when he has had a few moments for US teams recently in which he showed some offensive prowess in the midfield?
My dream is a midfield of Bradley - Stubrah - Benny
I just want him to make it a month without getting hurt. If he gets back to his previous level he should make Kljestan extraneous since they're the same general style of player. And he is a center-mid, so he has that going for him re: his national team hopes.
This is ridiculous.
Freddy will never suit up for mnt again until he can consistently find time at the club level.
The problem with the mnt is that we have 3dms and no width, too many central midfielders and not enough wingers.
Until klinnsman can settle on a back line and find service for jozy and Clint, were f'd

I'm not an MLS follower but isn't Freddy playing a lot for the Union?
No, hes not. They are actively trying to move him
Yeah, but I thought that was a money thing.
Yeah they don't want to pay his salary, which is more the story of his recent career than anything else.
Not sure why this warranted a DV but I'm going by what I hear/read. I haven't seen Freddy play in over a year. When he is in a NT kit, he's been really good. He even played defense in his last call up.
A review of Gus Johnson's first game (Manchester United-Real Madrid) done by SBNation's soccer guy who has never heard Gus announce a game before
Real Madrid vs. Manchester United saw Gus Johnson make his play-calling debut for Fox Soccer. It wasns some promise there nevertheless.
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
gotta love the combo of douchy soccer fan snobbery and douchy sbnation snarkery
(it's actually a pretty fair assessment, just wanted to get my shots in at sbnation)
