he did some weird stuff, but nothing like this, there were some NCM incidents with GW.
Gary actually calmed down a lot after we won the NC. He was at his peak in the 1999 season. I will agree this Rice stuff is way over the top of what Gary did, but Coach did heave basketballs at the players and managers.
Juan Dixon was on the radio this morning and said that he had never seen anything like it and if a coach had done something like that to him, there would have been a fight.
(This is just a comment based on what I heard today, not a response to disprove what G$ has said)

I must have sat through parts of 50 practices in early 90s as cole was open. I saw Gary kick a ball or two and he yelled obviously but a lot less than I think most people would have expected.
yeah just to be clear, Gary's behavior wasn't anything like what Rice did (and I also probably sat in on 50 or so practices). But he did throw basketballs at some of the kids and that was my original comment.
GW wasn't like that. He never shoved anyone. I can't remember him throwing a ball at someone either. I don't recall him using recall him using the word faggot either.
Don't get me wrong practices were no picnic at times and he was old school but he never physically assaulted players.
Not only the gay slurs, but apparently he would rag on Biruta's ethnic background too. Basically saying he was garbage because he was from Lithuania.
I can't imagine Gary doing that to Sarunas, or Greivis, or Obinna, etc
FWIW, Obinna spoke better english then Gary and both would agree on that. Gary did rag on Obinna for studying too much.
GW had his manic moments but is a gentlemen and generally the players actually liked him a lot off the court from my experiences.
More likely to result in a fistfight: throwing balls at people's heads or calling fouls like Obinna did?
I sat through a bunch of practices at Cole too when I was a student and never saw anything out of line. I remember Steve Blake's freshman year when we worked our way up to like #12 in the country early in the season (which was very surprising considering we had a young team, were unranked preseason, and had lost Steve Francis from the year before). A lot of players were in a giddy mood because of the ranking and practice got a bit lax so Gary tore into them like a madman for a few minutes about the ranking not meaning shit and to not get too full of themselves that early in the season. (They ended up losing their first 3 or 4 ACC games right after that.)
Also vividly remember him cussing out Earl Badu for taking an ill-advised shot and warning him never to take a shot like that again. But never saw him get out of line - was for the most part very calm compared to his game day demeanor...
Murdock sought 950k from University.
An attorney for Eric Murdock, Rutgers' former director of player development for men's basketball, sought $950,000 from the university as settlement for Murdock's wrongful termination claims, ESPN has learned.

OMG...just saw more vids on ESPN of Jimmy Martelli...wow, incredible.
almost worse than Rice. WTF is wrong with those guys
Pernetti out, as per numerous sources
As he should be.
The fact that Martelli is such a small guy and acting like that makes me furious for some reason
Good. What a clown.
If Pernetti is out than the President should be out too if he saw the tape. No reason why he should stay if Pernetti got caned over this.
yeah, those vids were out of control. wielding his "power" like a little Hitler. There was one of him pushing/shoving one the players - and you could just see the player thinking "i could drop this little mf'er in a heartbeat..." but he held back
i would love it if he forgot one time where he was and got into the face of some guys "down on the corner" like that...would get his ass handed to him...little midget
Wow. This is NOT roomy!
Agreed. This is big, big trouble for Rutgers though. Lots of big donors were backing Pernetti and threatening to cut off donations if he was canned. They now have no basketball coach, and one won't get hired until after they have an AD. The renovations they had set to happen at the RAC will be put on hold and I imagine athletes/coaches from numerous sports will leave or transfer. They are screwed.
It's ridiculous to fire the AD. He suspended the guy for 3 games. Was he supposed to release it to the public and slander the school like that? Academics are so out of touch with reality.

Newest stories say the president didn't see the tape until Tuesday night. But even if he didn't see them, if an AD is suspending/fining coaches, the president should be figuring out why.
Umm, knowing that a coach is throwing stuff up at kids and calling them gay slurs and keeping him around is a serious legal issue, especially at a public institution. Once the governor started making statements, they were all done.
This day and age I guess, but I disagree. At risk of sounding like a Penn State cultist, once he reported it to the president and they agreed on the suspension, I think he should have been fine.
Yeah, he didn't see the tapes but he did sign off on the suspension... don't see how you sign off on a suspension like that without looking at the evidence.
