We're now apparently taking cues on what is socially acceptable by what high school kids say and tweet to each other.
Of course they do, but why the fuck does everyone get so indignant about it every time it comes up. Who the fuck cares? Christ. Just let it go.
They do? I haven't read where someone has committed suicide specifically for hearing the word faggot or fag. I have heard of numerous suicides of gays and lesbians, as well as millions of others, but none that really fit the argument here. All of them, however, are tragic.
take your own advice?
"I like fixing broken things" - Kevin Plank
Well, sometimes people get indignant for no other reason than the fact that someone is passionately arguing that faggot is not an inappropriate word.
And why do you get so indignant about other people getting indignant? Why do you care if people are objecting to an objectionable word?
I'm just imagining all you guys playing basketball with your friends after work and somebody walks in and says "Whats up fag?" to his 24 year old or so friend on your team, and instead of letting it go like normal people do, all you guys are like "hey woah woah buddy. I don't know where you're from but those words could hurt somebody. Around here we don't say things like that."
Not really but I think too much is being made of it. Do you have any gay friends? Ask them if they really get offended when some heterosexual calls another heterosexual a fag or faggot. My bet is no.
Because people obviously don't REALLY care, were just trying to act like self righteous people on the internet and R&W sees right through us and has to call us out! DUH
I like reading and posting here. Having people guess which NFL players are gay because they like museums or having posters say faggot or say that faggot isn't that bad drastically reduces my ability to enjoy this place.
This conversation is awesome and all, but what does what you do with your boys have to do with an authoritative figure at a place of learning calling subordinates these words?
Let me add this part: subordinates who have no way to respond and have to stay in favor with the coach because they need a ridiculous release to change colleges.

Must be. Do you have any skin in the game or are just being judgmental?
How about you show a little more respect to someone who is atleast twice your age.

"lol why do people get so sensitive over this stuff, who cares"

See this is exactly what I'm talking about. No it doesn't. Close the thread. Read another thread. It has no effect on you at all unless you let it. You're just being overly sensitive to an issue that you can avoid. Instead you engage it and get up in arms about it.
Can we make sure to archive this thread for WPT seeding purposes in case the board switches servers before the next one? Good lord.
Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. Just keep in mind that no one is directing any insults directly. Try to see that and take posts here with a grain of salt.
I can't think of a single person who is voluntarily in my life that would say that. I wouldn't want to hang out with someone who did. And if someone at work said that I would absolutely tell them to never do it again.
this a pretty immature reason to continue using a offensive slur.
I agree with this. Its unacceptable in this relationship. However, to classify someone as homophobic because they say fag is clearly not correct either.
That point was made 4 pages ago, and most people generally agree with it. He's guilty of horrible judgment far more than he's guilty of homophobia. It still doesn't excuse the language.
It’s just funny to me how we can have these political correctness threads but then the thread where Greivis calls Malcolm Delaney the N-word goes and gets like 300 upvotes…
Man, I missed that one. Hopefully, it was directed towards me. I want to be the fall guy.
Can we at least agree that the word 'faggot' is an anti-gay slur and that context cannot remove that connotation?
It is the business walk of the biggest, baddest bear in the national park happening upon an abandoned picnic.
I see this more as a teachable moment about how to run/not run an organization. Coach Rice and Tom Pernitti will be forgotten in a very short time. This is more a live, on going case study to me. If it provokes a broader national discussion than this situation at Rutgers may move the conversation forward which would be a good thing.
I literally don't think I knew or was friends with a single person at age 24 who would call someone else a fag, even jokingly. As has been mentioned in this thread, most people generally grow out of saying ignorant shit like that in the course of conversation by then.
