How much could it cost them? Can't be any worse than Wang...
plan A: get greinke.
plan Z: sign sanchez or make a trade for someone like shields.
i didnt think Law's take was that negative. he premise was basically the Nats could regret this, if Meyer stays healthy and if he's a starter.
law overvaluing a prospect is nothing new
im sorry i was confusing...your "Superbowl" was the Redskins losing since you know that the Ravens cant win it all.
He also said because the Nats are a very serious contender it makes sense.
With the amount of money we're going to make over the next few years and with Lerner's $4B in the bank account, I don't think we're ever going to struggle with landing FA's (including legit SPs) even if Meyer pans out as a front rotation SP (which he won't) and our rotation starts to unravel in two years (which it won't).

Who is our #4?
(I assumed Det was our #4)
I hope Meyer works out for them. If the Nationals win say two WS with Span, what difference does it make? You have to put yourself in the best possible position to win now (that is within the next three years)...
whatever newbie they get (greinke/sanchez/shields) will be the 3 and JZ will be 4.
I'd be surprised if we traded for Shields.
Is it really possible that Lannan is our best option if we don't go all out for Grienke?
I have had a continuous boner since I heard about this trade. I've got a doctor's appointment for Monday.
Nats reportedly shopping Morse.
No. Anybody else want Anibal Sanchez? He's unbeatable in Nats Park.
I think this is smart. (although I love Beast Mode)
Even if we don't re-sign Laroche, is Tyler Moore a significant downgrade from Morse? Plus we've got Rendon coming up who can play third pushing Zimm to first.
You have to shop Morse to see what teams will give up. Doesn't mean LaRoche is definitely back quite yet. Hell, I think Tyler Moore is the most overrated player on the team. I'd keep Morse and use him as the backup 1B, RF, LF. With injuries inevitable you can get him 400-450 at-bats.
If you trade Morse: Does Tampa bite on a Morse-Rendon-X for Jeremy Hellickson trade? He might be a little far out from free agency for them to do that.
I'd take him...
Braves picked up Walden for Hanson. That bullpen is filthy.
How could you talk about my sweet T-Mo like that?
But I know that the Rays have liked Morse for years (and in return Rizzo was trying to nab Upton while also put together a package for one of their pitchers). He'd rake in that dome.
yeah so far they've had a good offseason. can't complain about ours though adding Span and the fact it's still uber early.
Lot of the national beat guys and the folks on MLB Network's Hot Stove this morning were really banging the Zack Greinke to Nats drum.
Decent trade for them. They had no room for Hanson with Beach coming back from Tommy John anyway.
I've never been a Walden fan though. He's pretty good, that's about it. He's a 0.5 WAR reliever. So was Michael Gonzalez for the Nats last year. Those guys aren't rare. I guess they will mix and match him with Venters in the 8th.
Doesn't really change them that much. They were already a team you needed to have the lead on late and that will still be the case. Though I'll never go into an eighth inning down one against Jordan Walden and think "well, this game's over."
I still can't see Lerner paying $150 million for him just like he didn't pay Fielder last year.
However, there is always the saying "this team is only one player away from a championship" so the question is whether the Nationals are that one player away from the title. They appear to be set everwhere else.
i think the nats were in on fielder, but the tigers dropped the hey we're going to outpay everyone by tens of millions of dollars.
rizzo has longed for greinke for years. and honestly, when rizzo wants someone, he's pretty stubborn about it.
span - wanted him, got him.
gio - wanted him, pleaded ownership to pull the trigger on trading prospects.
werth - wanted him, begged to open the wallet.
if memory serves me right, he was the one who discovered JZ.
Angels dealing for a starter is a decent indication they doubt Greinke is coming back.
I think it comes down to Dodgers vs. Nats.
