Caps have 11th and 16th pick. Doesn't seem like any real gamebreakers to be had outside top ten but a lot of solid prospects to be had. Caps should pick 2 C's or a C and a D.
Draft Griffin Reinhart and Zegmus Girgensons and win the prospect name championship
With the 11th pick in the 2012 NHL entry draft, the Washington Capitals select....the first Canadian center to walk up on stage. Literally just walk up here and we'll give you a jersey. If you don't make it up here first, don't worry. We'll be giving you the same opportunity in 5 picks.
Our minor league talent pool is basically non existent now with Holtby up. If this team isn't going to win a cup its going to take some Flyers style big time trades to shake up the the roster.
Hogie, I get your point but north american forwards are horrible this year. Sadly when the caps need one, most experts expect one north American forward to go in the top 20! Go with girgensons, a big 2 way latvian trained in the USA
We need depth bad, the only prospects we have worth anything that haven't worn a caps jersey are galiev, grubbauer and kusnetsov and that last one is just a facepalm. There are literally no defenders I have any hope for if we needed to call one up
Wideman will make money somewhere. I think Vokoun needs to show he's healthy before anyone takes too big a flyer on him.
Center is so thin this year. Jokinen at 33 years old or Gaustad at 30? Its going to take a major trade to actually fill the 2C position.
Agree, just from a capitals perspective I have no interest in retaining either. The only way I keep 29 is if he goes for 1.5 again (doubtful) AND we do some trade for a real NHL player involving neuvirth. Otherwise is just go with 70 and 30
Would definitely sign Carle from Philly to replace Wideman. I laugh every time I see Bryzgalov $5.7M until 2020 on their payroll.
capgeek.com is a great site to play around with.
Paul Gaustad would be a good pickup for you guys. I don't think 30 is that old, but that's because I'm used to watching senior citizens play hockey.
Detroit Hustles Harder
I don't see any way we bring back vokoun. He's going to have groin issues for the remainder of his career from the sound of it, and we need a reliable backup if we are going to trade 30. Grubauer needs to stay in Hershey for a full season before we even consider bringing him up, and we'd be forced to do that if vokoun couldn't play.
Green's QO is around $5 mil, based on his current contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he just signs that for a year. If he wants term, it's going to be at a much lower salary than that, which I don't see him taking. Needs to show he can be healthy and commit to taking care of his body off the ice before you commit any real money to him.
Wideman is gone, most other ufa's are too. We will resign all the RFAs just because our org loves to horde all assets.
Why do we need another bottom 6 center? We have Beagle, Laich, Eakin, and Hendricks and possibly Halpern. Grit is no longer our problem, talent is. 2C is our goddamn great white buffalo
Keep in mind that the KHL has a new rule now that allows teams to sign a Russian born player, and have it not count against the salary cap. AKA someone could throw crazy money at Semin...
It seems to be 50/50 whether Hunter even wants to come back. If he leaves I don't know how you trust McPhee to hire another coach. Of course if you bring in a new GM you have to give him the chance to make the call on his coach.
I'd be surprised if Semin is back,
Whats the deal with Kuznetsov?
And I don't see the fit for Gaustad like freddy said.

"I like fixing broken things" - Kevin Plank
I dont want Hunter to return and if he is 50/50 then i am absolutely sure i dont want him back.
He's staying in the KHL for at least another year, two according to him.
If Hunter comes back, the only thing that will be 50/50 is EVERY FUCKING GAME WE PLAY

u are preaching to the choir. i see another fight for 8th place if he returns. and probably some broken bones for Ovi and Backstrom from all the shot blocking.
The roster needs to be totally reshaped to succeed with Hunter's system. If he isn't 100% in it would be very foolish to do that then end up back in a bad spot after next year.
We need to reboot with a new GM. We're squandering the prime of all of our highest paid players. We're 5 years into this generation and we still don't have any meaningful success, a cohesive roster and we've depleted our organizational depth.
I think MoJo is a case of getting thrown in the fire too early. He would have been well-served with 1+ years in Hershey, but GMGM grasped and may have ruined him as a result.
"Alzner had more goals, assists and points /60 minutes at 5v5 ice than Mike Green in the 2011-2012 season"
That is a really, really bad stat for Green.
Weren't we all saying the organization needs a reboot at least last year, if not, 2 years ago?
If so, sheesh...
I fully expect not to see Semin in a Caps uniform next year.
I feel like we've been saying this for the past few years.
Can someone also tell me why Knuble is as good as gone? I don't want him to ever leave.

If you want to throw money around in FA and can't swing a big trade, then Carle is the best possible move. He'd be a huge upgrade over the departed Wideman, would be able to play quality top 4 minutes nightly, and would allow whoever is coach to manage Green's minutes and spot him with offensive zone starts.
As for possible trade partners, the Sharks are in an awful cap mess - they have 14 players under contract next year and only $8m left to fill out the roster. They're particularly in need of young, inexpensive forwards. I'd want no part of Joe Thornton and his Mr. October game at the 2C, but maybe you can swing something with MoJo and/or Eakin as the centerpiece for Marleau (who has a no-trade) or Pavelski.
