About as uncharacteristic of an inning from the Cards as you will ever see. 5 walks (2 Int), an error, and a WP.
Could you believe you scored 9 in an inning yesterday?
I could, cards offense has been very streaky for a while... 10 runs today, 12 tomorrow, then a total of 2 the next 3.
I think it's kind of unrespectful- Ovie
The Bucs have actually scored 4 tonight so far, but Marte and Cutch are all we've had. The rest of the lineup is hitting below the Mendoza line. Going into tonight's game, the team average was .119 and Wandy got hurt and had to leave in the 3rd.
When I have as many hits as your catcher, you have a problem
My personal opinion is that the trend will continue for the Bucs not hitting. Its a lot to ask for guys like Tabata, Alvarez, and Snider to hit well when they wouldn't be starters on most good teams
Throw in Walker, Barmes and Russell Martin who is 0 for his Pirate career, and I don't necessarily disagree.
The Pirates went all in with first round draft picks, their own and ones they acquired, and it hasn't worked out real well. This start almost mirrors last year though, and the Bucs were in first place in July with the same or similar cast of characters. We got absolutely humiliated in LA though, and the Dodgers pitching staff will punish some teams as they did the Bucs, The Pirates actually have a pretty decent pitching staff and we will probably start trading those guys around the All Star break. LOL!!!
When is Motte back?
"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."
Also, lol @ thinking Pedro Alvarez wouldn't be a starter for most teams. Yeah, 30-HR guys often find themselves on the bench. Jesus.
Tabata and Snider are no where near starting for the Pirates. They find themselves behind Garrett and Marte.
Not in the next 3 weeks, so I would say sometime in May if things go well with no setbacks
Not specifically referring to Pedro, but if he doesn't learn to hit for a better average, he'll do more bad than good.
The problem is, like Eli alluded to, is that you're built to be a pitching team soon with your 1st rounders, but those guys aren't ready.
You have to count McCutcheon, Walker and Alvarez as in house first round draft picks who they were counting on to be "major league" quality every day players to go with all that young pitching down on the farm. Snider was someone's first round pick as well, and he may be another "piece". I love, love, love, love Marte. He just drips ability, Tony Sanchez was targeted to be their catcher, but he's still down on the farm. Tabata is still a flake. Jones is a solid player, and he homered tonight in the win.
But we are no better off behind the plate or at short than we have been for a long, long time, and I don't see much in the pipeline, and our bench won't scare anyone. As usual, the Bucs will have to dig themselves out of this early season hole, and we'll see if they bring those young pitchers up after the All Star break and deal some of the veteran pitching.
Marte continues to get on with another lead off hit that leads to a run. Russell Martin got his first Pirate hit and got stranded by Pedro along with jones. Just can't seem to get a big hit. Still Bucs up i-0 with the D'backs coming to bat in the first.
Well so much for the Pirates. McDonald is getting tattoed after two walks, a double and a dinger. 4-1 and only one out. I may just check out on this one.
They did the same thing to us, AZ is a pretty good team, so don't feel too bad
We've gotten back in this one. Marte continues to impress. Walker finally with a big hit. 5-4 Bucs and the inning isn't over.
Bucs out hit them 11-6 and won 6-5. Nice work from the bullpen for the most part.

Marte is on fire to start off the season. Lead off double here.
Homer Bailey got rocked today. Hate losing any games to St. Louis.
And on a day where our bullpen could use a rest, Jonathan Sanchez is getting lit up
Jake Westbrook gonna jake Westbrook, what can you say?
On the radio broadcast the Pirates announcers are discussing how rarely the Pirates were able to pull off the sweep last year after winning the first two games of a series and why that might be. Take a look at the line-up today. Hurdle basically concedes day games when he trots out a line up like this.
Cubs/Brewers already cancelled due to forecast of freezing rain.
I couldn't agree more. We got thumped today, and get the Reds next. I'm old enough to say this. Marte has reminded me a lot of a young Roberto Clemente. Oh, I pray to God that he has that kind of upside.
I'm convinced every young and promising outfielder for the Pirates will now and forever be compared and contrasted to Roberto Clemente by Eli.
You send one little goat's head to your owner and everyone starts FREAKING OUT...
A goat head addressed to Chicago Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts was delivered to Wrigley Field Wednesday. (WGN-TV)
There have been other Latino players like Tabata and Jose Guillen who the media would compare to the Great One, but this is the first kid that I have seen who might belong in that converstaion if he maintains his current production.
Bonds was obviously a high potential kid when the Bucs had him before anyone started talking steroids and HOF, and people would hesitate to make that comparison between him and Clemente based on the differences in their games. Marte is a left fielder as well, but his entire demeanor reminds me so much of Roberto. He's got that rocket arm, he isn't thought to be a power hitter, he can run, and he carries himself with a quiet dignity. That's all I'm saying.
At the same time, how nice would it be for us as Buc fans if he DOES actualize his abilities the way Roberto did and do it as a Bucco?
