All the teams are going to miss having the Astros in the division this year. Reds haven't played well at all in the spring, Votto and Choo are the only two guys who have really been hitting Chapman appears to be the closer for now but that may change. They kick off the daily interleague play by welcoming Trout, Pujols, Hamilton and crew for the first series of the year.
The Cards will be their usual selves and should be the favorite to win the Division. Brewers are a mystery to me, can't really get a read on how they're going to be. Spring is the time for the eternal optimism of the Bucs and Cubs fans.
The Reds are actually pretty big favorites. They are one of three teams in MLB (Tigers, Angels) over 50% to win their division according to the bookies.
I've seen that but still have a lot of respect for the Cards. Reds first month schedule is crazy mix of good and bad teams.
I enter another baseball season with zero expectations other than that the Pirates will show up. They did nothing in the off season to show me that they are intent on ending their streak of losing seasons, and as usual, it will come down to seeing if the pitching staff can keep us in ball games. We aren't going to threaten anyone.
Cards will miss the playoffs, you heard it here first. We're re-tooling this year. In 2014, Wong will be at 2nd, taveras in RF, and Shelby, rosenthal, and Martinez will have some good MLB experience under their belt.
Reds, cards, brewers, pirates, cubs are my standings prediction, but I think we'll have a good crowd spots 2-4 all year long.
I think it's kind of unrespectful- Ovie
Jay, we would respectfully ask you to bow out of this thread please.
Thanks for your understanding.
You're just mad over my Knicks comment, haha. Go Mets?
why should i?
would like to talk baseball in this thread, not flames. Your schtick works great in the Nats and NL East threads, I think that's enough for the board.
i don't dislike anyone in this thread enough to flame
nats fans deserve that fucking shit. bob/5th/wahoos used to deserve it. i don't hate any of you guys enough
i'm only mad that you think that jr smith is going to sustain a high level of offensive efficiency
and i am the nuber 1 jr smith fan around
We can keep this open until Opening Day, then lock it up until the end on the NHL playoffs, please.
"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."
Jeff Samardzija! AJ Burnett! Cubs! Pirates! NL Central! Opening Day!
After snowing and raining terribly earlier, it looks pretty nice outside now. Still very chilly for baseball, but BASEBALL!!!!
35 degrees, 27 degree windchill. The forecast on the Cubs broadcast was : BRRRRRRRRRRRR
@FacebookPirates is a twitter account that only tweets comments fans make on the Pirates facebook, should be fun to follow this season
Anthony Rizzo is going to be a GOD
Happy opening day to all.. Glad the cards game is on late so I can watch it.
Opening day is awesome. Being so cold is not.
I'm not sure I'm prepared to live in a world where Starlin Castro is good defensively and Jeff Samardzija is an ace. Luckily, I'm a Cubs fan and this is Opening Day, so I'm sure I won't be living in that world by tomorrow.
Hurdle's strategy this game was to get to Marmol
Carlos Marmol still Carlos Marmol.
Can we get rid of this guy for the love of God?
