I really don't have any interest in Ross. He seems like a guy to me that will get a contract he won't ever live up to. Just personal preference to go with McLouth/Reimold out there and then you could always toss Davis out there once in awhile or Hoes/Avery.
Ten organizations do not have a scout in Columbia. Orioles do.
I'm not giving Ross 3/25. I'd probably go as high as 2/14 with an option. He's been at least a 2 WAR player 5 of the last 6 years. Career .928 OPS against LHP.
Definitely useful if used right and the terms are reasonable.
I'd love to have Dickey on the team. That said, I have very little interest in him. You are buying him at his absolute peak, he is 38-years old and the Mets will want some young studs for him. I'm not giving up Schoop and a host of others to bring in Dickey when you don't really know exactly what you have in him, he is 38, and he wants a big deal.
What is in Columbia?
I'll deal one of the ML arms for Dickey. But that won't get close to what the Mets want.
Dickey is a FA after 2013. Unless a deal is contingent on an extension, I'm not sure why the Mets should have very much leverage in trying to trade one year of Dickey.
Given that the OF market is pretty well stocked I could see Ross ending up on a short term deal. He only made 3M last year and while he had a good season with Boston it's not like he set the world on fire.
The following FAs had higher OPS+ than Ross last year: Pagan, Cabrera, Swisher, Hamilton, Hunter and Ludwick. Upton/Bourn/Victorino all had lower OPS+ but all three also provide average to above defense in CF.

People trade a lot for 2 month rentals. Even if he is just a 6 months rental, he still has really good value. Not to mention we get a 2014 comp pick if we don't re-sign him.
But I would much rather have a scout in Colombia:
Not sure if he'd accept the role but Victorino would also be a good platoon partner with McLouth.
On tap this week, the Owner's Meetings on Wednesday and Thursday in Chicago. 21 days until the Winter Meetings in Nashville.
Random thought/question on a boring Monday-
Why did the poster "OriolesMagic" disappear as soon as the playoff run ended?
Wasn't it OsMagic?
Pretty sure he goes by terpskinsfan21 in the offseason.
For the bored. The LaCava meltdown is fun.
A lot more fun going into the offseason on a winning note. Andy MacPhail expected to step down today. Local reporters seem to be favoring
i don't think a dickey trade is a match for either the o's or mets
Congratulations to Wei-Yin and Yi-Wen Chen on the birth of their son Karsten! He was born today at 8:07am. #Orioles
WTF he had a baby with himself?
The combination of those three names killed me.
Before the Chris Young deal, Oakland had extensive talks on a two-year deal with Jonny Gomes. Orioles could be a fit for him now.
Gomes is a perfect fit. He is my #1 target this offseason. Jonny Betemit is maybe our best hitter.
