I think it might be sooner than that. I'm guessing 2-3 weeks of training camp, one week of exhibitions, and 40 game season is what they're realistically looking at now. Remember how crappy it was with the compressed schedule after the Olympics in 2010? Lots of back to backs and tired players.
Sounds like they're going with a 10-day training camp, max. They could conceivably still start the season on New Year's Day and have a 50 game season. Just push the playoffs back to late April.

These guys playing in Europe are going to be dead if that happens.
there is a watchdog type group out here called Goldwater that has stopped Glendale from doing a deal on several occasions. some think they will be able to do it again.
im sorry i was confusing...your "Superbowl" was the Redskins losing since you know that the Ravens cant win it all.
Tomorrow is possible...again?
From the blog Puck Daddy: The meeting between NHL players and owners on Tuesday in New York City — held without the presence of Commissioner Gary Bettman or union chief Donald Fehr in the room — was previewed rather pessimistically by pundits. Ken Campbell of … Continue reading →
The slobbering is going to be unbearable if this gets done. People are already giving Crosby the credit.
Tomorrow Never Dies?
"Former player Nick Kypreos, a Sportsnet broadcaster and staunch supporter of the NHLPA in labour negotations, says NHL commissioner Gary Bettman wants a deal done to end the NHL lockout by Friday."
Remember, Caps fans, to thank Sidney Crosby and Penguins' majority owner Ron Burkle for making this season happens when the CBA is signed. As 7erps said, they are doing "God's work" in those meetings.
"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."
I look forward to the Caps thanking Sid soon and often.

I think I would rather tell them both to go F themselves and ask what the hell took so long (and I would feel that way about all players and owners).
Unless Crosby got Bettman to blow him, I'm unimpressed.
From everything being tweeted/written, it seems like a deal by the weekend is inevitable.
If that happens, then give me a 50 game season starting after Christmas. That would be perfect.
Will be interesting to see how guys who went to Europe play compared to guys who hung out here as the season wears on.
According to teammate of player present at meeting the 2 sides have reached an agreement on many issues and could be announced < 72Hr
is there any way to try and have guys who went to Europe kidnapped and kept there for the whole season? goaltenders, specifically.....

This feels like when your fav NHL team is in a 3-OT playoff game. Win, and the series is likely yours. Lose, and hope is gone, and you lose.

If you had anything before 12:30 a.m., Eastern in the when-will-the-CBA-talks-break-off pool, you lose.

Multiple people with some sense of what's going on will only say process is at "critical" juncture or "serious" phase.

Hearing NHL and NHLPA have scaled back numbers involved in tonight's sessions. Down to 3 owners and far fewer players than earlier in day.

My gut says there is a deal this weekend.
Mike Emerick was supposed to call Caps-Rangers last night.
