You know it's bad when Dick Vitale can't even get behind UCLA being elite.

Just an idle hoops thought - UCLA job is NOT an elite job ! Pressure unreal - always compared to Wiard of Westwood success .
Smart signs an extension with VCU through 2023.
VCU head coach Shaka Smart has turned down an opportunity to join UCLA, informing them today that he'll be staying with the Rams, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.
I'll be very surprised if he does well.

So I see Northwestern still won't make the dance for the foreseeable future.
It's amazing how often K's cronies get BCS jobs without paying their dues as a HC in another conference. You would think AD's would look at the track record and realize most of them have sucked or not been anywhere close to what they envisioned.
Are you saying you think it's a bad hire for Northwestern? Because they're in a BCS conference, they should have aimed higher?
BCS schools should probably hire someone that has been a head coach before.
Northwestern is undoubtedly one of the worst BCS jobs though, so it's not unexpected for them to have to reach to get a candidate. Not that I think Collins will do well there, but Northwestern isn't going to be able to get any of the highly regarded mid major coaches to go there.
Agree, there have to be plenty of B1G assistants who know the conference and are qualified for that job.
they mystique of Duke and being an assistant under Coach K still impresses schools. All of the three assistants that left K's bench for HC jobs in the last 15 years got BCS head coaching jobs without any prior HC experience -- Tommy Amaker, Johnny Dawkins and now Chris Collins. Agree that none of the jobs they got were very good and prob bottom 20 percentile of all BCS jobs (Northwestern could be near bottom, not far below Seton Hall).
Yeah, but they're not used to coaching at an academically rigorous school like duke where they only allow academic heavyweights like Sean Dockery and Quinn Cook grace Coach K Court.
Don't forget Quin Snyder, who got the Missouri job straight off of K's bench in 1999.
Something I learned from Wikipedia - Snyder is now an assistant for CSKA Moscow.
How to make UCLA a top five job: just allow "access" to the cheerleaders. That was easy.
UCLA cheerleaders are by no means ugly but they are nowhere near USC's level.
Try to keep up, the Mark Gottfried to UCLA rumors were posted several pages ago

Texas Tech reaching out to Tubby
Given he was coaching the D League IIRC, is that a step or down?

Butler coach Brad Stevens is the top target in UCLA's search for a basketball coach, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com that the two sides were in contract negotiations. Stevens didn't confirm or deny he's talking to UCLA but reaffirmed his coaching status via text message.
"I'm the coach at Butler," Stevens wrote. "As you know, my stance is to not comment on any other speculation or situation."

Looking for a raise.
Quinn Shady will never get a shot at NCAA for the foreseeable future.
Lets get the Buzz to UCLA rumors going
